First, want to say I've been following SA and the SA message board and think you guys are so nice! I'm excited when someone wins. I've been entering sweeps for several months now and SA has made it so easy..thank you! I try to help out when I can (like the 7-up contest)

I just bought a 108yr old farm house here in TN this past summer. It's been my dream though to have an old house and give music lessons from my home. Well, this old place needs work and I don't have the budget to do it.

I'm sooooooo excited...I can't even believe this..

Just found out I am a finialist in Rohm & Haas and the Arbor Day foundation whole house exterior makeover!!! There are only 20 finialists. One grand prize winner and 8 more people at least get their house painted. I need votes starting 2/18! This would mean so much to me.

But I need help with the forms. Both the publicity and affidavit have a place for witness..does that mean I need to have these notorized? I have to fax this by Tuesday.

Thanks for your help!!
Cathy

Here is where the houses will be listed next week

It would be a wise thing to get these notarized and usually your bank will do these for no charge but it varies from bank to bank. But not all affy's need a notary a notary verifies that you did sign the form though.

I agree, better to get this done so there is no problem.

thank you! (i'm so excited!)

I don't know much about legals and such, but myself I would get them notarized, better safe then sorry, as far as voting I will be glad to vote for you and hope you get it, but please do me a favor, my memory is terrible, so please send me a pm on the 18th to remind me to start voting, is it a vote once, or everyday? I will be glad to do either, just remind me when to start please.

I agree with getting it notarized to be safe. Best of luck with the contest. I myself own an old home and the upkeep can be overwhelming. Any help you can get is wonderful.

I don't know about you, but in my awe over the inside beauty of my older home, I seemed to overlook the lack of closet space.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you. :sunny:

Thanks everyone, going today to get it notorized and then fax it!

I understand about closet space, before this house I live in an 1890's attic apartment! This old house has closets though, in almost every room. My parents left me some money so I was able to buy it. It's HUGE. What I'm worried about is, this contest you have to promise to paint your house..grand prize..no problem. But the 1st prizes are 5k...with the old vinyl siding, size of the house and condition I think I'd have to take out a loan to complete it..more debt I can't really afford by myself. Although a music teacher for 18 years, I'm in a new city and it's going to take some time to get students. I teach here in the house (and I'm an artist) it's such a beautiful setting, hope to have community events here some day. This is a dream I've been planning a long long time..like "under the tuscan sun" I'll roll up my sleeves and tear down the siding, scrap, and paint to get er done though :sunny:

Closets plenty..no heat in the kitchen or insulation in the house, still needs some new wiring.. lol. Gotta love these old places though!

BTW, sorry new at this and I apologize. I needed advice about the "witness" thing on the papers but will put my vote request in the appropriate forum when I get the details.

I live in an eight bedroom house built before 1900 and the upkeep costs are amazingly high. Last year we needed a new roof, well and septic tank. And yet more work on the wiring Ouch! It takes an industrial heating plant, no standard home heating will work (the fuel oil heater in the back room is just about bigger than one of the studios I have lived in!). Rats and mice, and other critters are a big problem (what is that bumping under the house?) Speaking of wiring, we have three fuse boxes, one is an antique with actual fuses, two have switches. We think we've finally got most of the old WWII aluminum wiring out, but who knows-that is why there is a smoke alarm in every room!
You've got your work cut out for you. Depending on what you use for heat, do consider getting a carbon monoxide detector. One of our neighbors died in a nursing home with severe brain damage (she was in her 30's) due to her old heating system malfunctioning.
And remember to take proper precautions working with lead paint and any asbestos that may be lurking. We had to remove a huge asbestos pad that had been under an old heater. Guys in moon suits, special disposal...$$$ And we can't drink our water due it being filled with massive amounts of salt, bacteria and high levels of lead. Lead is a big problem in the plumbing in old homes, and the salt water here just leaches it out.
We figured it up recently and living in Manhattan would be cheaper

I will vote for you also!  But you people do make me laugh talking about your "old" houses built in the late 1800's. My house was built in 1832 so as far as I am concerned you guys have "new" houses.

Lol!

Too funny. Any haunts you guys? None here. I did go on a ghost hunt with Jason and Grant from Ghost Hunters last summer..to an abandon insane asylum in NY..it was a blast!

My friend from Greece lives in a house which has parts which are over 1,200 years old (the basement may be older) They really knew how to build things back then. The site does not seem to be loading...

As to having an affy' notarized, it is a good idea. If it is required be sure to get it done where a seal is embossed onto the paper. Here in MI that requires a visit to a county clerks office as banks do not use seals. I found this out a few years ago when I won a Jeep and had the affy' rejected because the seal was missing.

Any person who is a notary should always have there seal attached as that is what a notarized form will have otherwise it is not notarized.

I went to have it notarized, and they told me it wasn't necessary because there was no place for her to sign and seal it. It only asked for a witness. So she did witness it and I faxed it in. Of course with the holiday I can't call them until tomorrow and only have until 2pm if they don't accept what I sent. I sent an email and will call early tomorrow morning and ask them if what I sent is ok.

Thanks for the offers for the votes, seems they are behind and it won't go up until mid week.

first things first do what the rules tell you to do and go get it notorized asap. I went to my insurance company office which is close to my house my band doesnt do it. I just won prize from glamour magazine and I am waiting for the prize now and when you get this done fax it right away and keep copies of everything they send you on this promotion good luck I won a car, trip, and money on the american idol got it done right away that was four years ago.

I love that show. Maybe I saw the show you were on. I watch it pretty regular. Remind me of the place you went or do you have a link which asylum? I think I just saw one like that recently. I'd probably be too chicken to go to a haunted house.

:headbang:

I wasn't on a show, it wasn't filmed. If you go to the TAPS website there are trips available, some of them Jason and Grant are part of the trip and other great guests. They are just as nice and funny as they are on TV. We went to Rolling Hills in NY. It was scary!!!I got some unbelievable evps and had soooo much fun. I would love to go again on a trip. Went with my niece and had a blast. :)

Thanks! Cool, what did you win from Glamour? The rules don't say anything about it being "notorized" just a witness. The notary public wouldn't even seal it, but did witness it. I have until 2pm tomorrow if what I sent isn't right. This is sooo exciting, never won anything until I came here, You must be good luck!
