**Laid Off----Updated 1/13/2010**

Re: Laid Off

Champ, the best way to sell yourself is to be yourself. I have interviewed many, many people and I can't stand people who are trying to impress me. I appreciate someone who is genuine, excited to be considered for a job, and comfortable with themselves. Just relax and go with it.

Good luck!

Re: Laid Off

thanks pmeek & wolfie...

That's right wolfie... That's always what i've been about.. I'm real in the interview process... I sit back... tell em' what I've done, what I will accomplish, what I bring for the trade........ That's what's always brought me fortune....

x'ed fingers ladies.... :sunny:

Re: Laid Off

I'll keep them crossed kiddo, but if it's right, it'll be right! It's great that the interviews are starting so quickly.

Re: Laid Off

Ok, I'm back from the interview.....

Wolfie I got your PM... Thanks so much... You are the best.. Great person.... I appreciate that

Redhead I got your PM too.. Thanks girl...

Back 2 the Interview: It went great!! Never interviewed for a law office... It was different but good. It was an office of 20 people, the lady was really laid back and nice to talk to. It was wierd, we both just sat back and laid it out on the table what their needs are and what I can offer. I think it went well because she asked if I could come back tomorrow to meet one of the partners. I also filled out their application while waiting in the lobby and it had a question as to what my salary request is... So, if they couldn't meet that, I don't think the lady would be asking for me to come back tomorrow... Right?????

Alright... I'll keep you guys posted on more... Back to my job search... 1st come 1st serve.... :sunny:

Re: Laid Off

So happy it went well Champ. Partners don't meet with all the candidates. They meet with the few selected in first round. I remember, as an associate, I always did the 1st round of interviews. The partners always did the finals. I had to pick 3 or 4 I could work with and then they would choose from that. I was so happy when I made partner. I always picked a better candidate than they did!

Something I always make sure of. I hire someone with strengths in areas where I am weak. I hate being on the phone. So, I always hire someone I can rely on to handle many of the phone calls that come in. It saves clients money and me the aggravation of being on the phone with the crazy lady who talks for hours. I also prefer to hire someone who likes mornings and is strong that time of day. I am cranky as anything in the morning. So, I will stroll in for 9. I like my files ready when I get in. I love to work late. I do my best work later in the day. So, I will be prepping and working on things later than most work in the office. So, order gets restored before I get in.

My point, see if you can feel out their weaknesses and play to it. They will probably guide you along the way. Pay attention to the questions you are asked.

GOOD LUCK! Let us know how it goes tomorrow!

Re: Laid Off

:sunny: Great news Champ! Looks like when the other door closed a better door opened! Will say a prayer for you tonite!

Re: Laid Off

Champ,

Sorry to hear all this! I also went through the same thing. I was let go 10/29/08. I was lucky as they paid me until the end of the year. 01/14/09 was the 1st time I was to call Marvin (our unemployment) to collect my whole 625 for 2 weeks. Someone above was looking out for me that day & my old boss called me & offered me my job back! Of course I jumped on it! I was looking & looking for jobs to work from home as that is what I have done for the last 8 years, but there is nothing out there,

I wish you the best of luck & will keep you in my prayers, just like many from here did for me!

Re: Laid Off

Hey SA Team

I've been sooo streesed out, even breaking out in hives and just in a BAD MOOD lately..... ..... I received my 1st unemployment check today(only income we have, my fiance doesn't work), went to my daughters school 2 weeks ago and filled out some paperwork to have free breakfast and free lunch for the rest of the year ( I got a letter yesterday saying it is approved and she will not be getting these free), I will know by the end of this month if we get the 3bd apt for below market rate ..... I'm tryin' to keep my family afloat. The economy doesn't seem to be looking any brighter even when 2009 is done with....

I've been thinking about finishing my degree and going back to school, only this time for court reporting...What do you guys think??..... Any advice is appreciated.....

Thanks all for your kind words.... Man that HGTV Dream Home sure would come in handy now.........

Re: Laid Off

Hey SA.........

I'm here at school. 2day is my 1st day. 5:45pm-10pm mon&wed nights. I applied at the College and filled out all the Financial Aid paperwork to get me going. I am signed up and registered for Court Reporting class. I have a friend who's wife is a Court Reporter, she lovesss it and makes great money doing it. Hopefully I will too. I look at this laid off thing as maybe giving me another chance to better myself and my family. I want a good education and a rewarding career. So I sat back these weeks that I've been laid off and thought to myself "what skills do I have that I can use as a career".. I can type really fast ....Then "boom" I thought of Court Reporting. Looked up the schools here in Cali that offer the course and signed up... Not sure what the heck I'm getting myself into, but why not..... right?

Job: So as far as the job search goes....... NADA!!!.... I landed a few interviews here and there but no bites.... Not sure if I'm being to picky on my salary request or what???? So I'm still on unemployment which is helping. (to be honest guys, i'm just taking it day by day and hoping the family and I make it....

Living Situation: We're moving out on the 1st. We gave our notice last weekend.
..

To Those Who Care and Have Been PM'ing Me: THANK YOU and I am grateful there are those who do CARE...... THANK YOU.... To be honest, I am scared, I am starting all over again.....

You'll love court reporter! My friend Peggy did it for years, and once she retired she switched to part time medical transcriptionist.

Re: Laid Off
