MLB Sharp Aquos Tv Sweepstakes

My mother's TV arrived today. Due to the contest stating the total cost of the prize including S&H was 1500.00 my father had my look up the price of the TV. The one store that is near my that sells it is BJ's at it sells for 729.99 and he also had me research the shipping cost and it was like 49.99.

So I emailed that person that contacted my mother in regards to the TV to say thank you and he emailed me back that he was happy we received it and then inquired as to the model number. I guess he wanted to make sure we got the right TV. I then inquired about the prices to see if that will be reflective on the 1099. If it remains at 1500.00, my father will then just send in the paper work showing the cost of the TV as of today since this is when we received it.

Congrats to your parents on the win! And great job with the research...that will certainly help with the taxes next year! :sunny:

Update, I was advised that since the MSRP was around 1500.00 when Sharp initally made this TV this is the price that will be showing up on the 1099. But my father already said that he will contact the IRS about this to see what they say about what he has to pay taxes on.

Keep us updated on that situation! I am curious if they are acurate on that to. That is why it is usually posted as estimated! Someone might just be making up excuses to. Oh well sound like they got a nice TV. hope they enjoy it. :hiding:

i filed my own taxes this year and when i indicated that part of my money was a contest winning the software asked me if I wanted to give a different value to it (presuming i had documentation). I don't think that you need to ask the IRS permission just keep records with your taxes so that in the event that you get audited you can easily show back up documentation for the value you used. Sponsors are often difficult about adjusting the 1099 so it's good to know that you dont' necessarily need them to do so.
