norton stopped a vicious attack!

my norton said it stopped a vicious attack. I had just done a she knows and a paszaz so they are both deleted from my lists. I think the Need Coffee messed up my computer the other day. Someone gave a heads up on that one but it was too late, I had already entered some sweeps from there. It sent out spam to everyone in my e-mail contacts. changed passwords, ran virus scans, and changed security questions. I will be very cautious in the future about what I enter.

I don't think the virus was from She Knows. I go there everyday to enter (being very hopeful....LOL)! Hope it gets better for you!

I got the antispam virus too and hadn't been to any of the mentioned websites. Virus' can enter from wherever and then lie dormant until they decide to spring up, so it is really hard to tell where it came from. I don't know the answer as to which are the sites the enter from but I know I keep my anti virus program up to date and scan often, in case I have "one lying in wait" to attack. I hadn't scanned recently when I got attacked, but I do now! good luck all!

I was sweeping last month and got attacked. Turned it on the next morning and someone had been in my computer doing searches cause all these windows were open that I had not done. My whole computer froze up and it is now a piece of junk.........my husband thinks the bios are messed up, which means nothing to me, but apparently a big deal. I use my laptop now and keep the anti-virus and security up to date.

Beat me to it again!!!

It was me who got the virus during entering "need coffee." I haven't been back since, but my virus protection seems to be pretty good now -- I'm using Embarq's online service. It stopped 2 unfamiliars yesterday, but I don't think they were virus files. I did paszaz today with no problem -- I do she knows every day with no problem. I might get brave enough to go back to coffee soon, but so far, not THAT brave. :)

Thanks for the warning!

A lot of viruses are spread through ads on webpages. The website usually uses an ad service and has no idea what ads could be running on their site at any time, so it's not always their fault. One thing I do to keep my computer a bit safer (in addition to anti-virus) is I use the Chrome browser with the Ad-Block extension. It shuts off all the ads on websites so 1) I don't have to see all that blinking and annoying crap and 2) my chances of getting a virus are a little bit lower.

Links, if anyone is curious.

Do you ever have trouble with Chrome being non-compatible? I used it for a while, but I had some problem with it, I don't remember what it was, but I stopped using it. Seems like maybe pages wouldn't load right or something?

I've recently switched from Mozilla to the newest IE, and it actually works surprisingly well (I've never liked IE) and much faster than my Mozilla program was working. It kept stalling and crashing and I couldn't figure out what was wrong with it ...

Anyway -- I wonder if IE has the ad blocker? I may have to re-install Chrome and give it a try. BTW, I feel certain it was an ad on the page, not the site themselves, that got me. So -- you are absolutely right about that -- and it could be that some of these other sites use the same service, which means it could strike from anywhere ...

How ominous ... :)

Thanks for the heads up on Chrome -- I am curious :)
