Peanut Butter Recalls...!

There has been a major salmonella outbreak across the country, with cases being reported in 43 states now, hundreds sickened, and with 6 fatalities so far. Peanut butter is the culprit yet again. This time however, the contaminated peanut butter is only in food products containing peanut butter (i.e. cookies, crackers, candies, ice cream, etc.)....peanut butter in a jar is SAFE to eat (Jiffy, Skippy, Peter Pan, etc.).

Anyhow...visit the News forum here at SA to keep up-to-date on the latest recalls. We don't want anyone getting sick.

With Girl Scout cookies season around the corner, I can confirm that the peanut butter cookies coming from ABC Interbake (one of two bakeries the scouts use) are safe to eat. Yummy too. The other bakery is Little Brownie Bakers and I believe they're okay too.

In reply to a note I sent: Thank you for contacting ABC Bakers, proud producers of Girl Scout Cookies since 1938. Attached is a statement from the Senior Vice President of ABC Bakers / Interbake Foods. This statement has also been put on our website www.abcsmartcookies.com.

Thank you for supporting the Girl Scouts in your community.

Yeah, one of our 7 boxes (Jimmie didn't know I ordered ~ lol) is Do-Si-Dos. Glad to know that I will still be able to eat them...maybe I will tell the kids that all of them aren't safe and hide them...

I would hold off until the plant is really checked.

GS has gotten flack for sending that out so early. The plant that they mention has NOT been ruled out. There is probably a good chance its a grower issue since peanuts are cooked at

By the way, they are adding to the recall daily, so I would wait a little while.

You can always send them to me, ya know, to check for poison

Hey Sticks, I always check out the recall thread. Thank you so much for keeping that updated. Ever since the pet food mess last year, I have become a big fan of that thread!

 Thank ya kindly Wolfie, for visiting my "recall" thread. People need to be made aware of potentially dangerous foods.

Do-Si-Do's come from the other bakery, Little Brownie Bakers. This came from their site:

Peanut Butter Safety in Girl Scout Cookies®
LOUISVILLE, KY — We want to assure all of our loyal Girl Scout Cookie customers that the peanut butter used in Tagalongs® and Do-Si-Dos® cookie products is not sourced from Peanut Corporation of America, the supplier recently implicated by the FDA in their ongoing investigation of a Salmonella outbreak.

Food safety is of the utmost importance to us. We have and continue to work closely with all of our ingredient suppliers to ensure that they continue to exceed food industry operating standards as part of our goal to bake safe, great tasting Girl Scout Cookies. In addition to our expectations of ingredient suppliers, our suppliers are subject to rigorous food safety audits from independent third party auditors. Our peanut butter supplier has a history of excellent audit results.

We appreciate the trust you have placed in us as well as your support of the Girl Scouts® in your community.

That is a press relase from GS, that is not an official statement from the FDA.

The FDA has said that they have not completed their probe. And while the company has sworn they are fine, the FDA has said Peanut Corporation has not been cleared yet.

I'm a farmer. Remember the jalepenos and tomatoes?

The FDA said it was one grower in California and only tomato grower. It took 6 months for them to realize that it wasn't the tomatoes. It was the jalepenos and while they were heated at a high tempature, it was a new strain of salmanella that was found.

Peanuts are done at a VERY high degree that kills these disease and the plant in question has been tested and the first report says it has nothing that was out of the ordinary.

The FDA has said DO NOT EAT ANYTHING WITH PEANUT BUTTER IN IT. AND HAVE ASKED THAT CRACKERS NAD COOKIES BE REMOVED FROM STORES.

If you want to eat them, fine.

I just hope parents think and NOT let the kid have them.

6 people are dead already.

Go for the thin mints instead  they are my favorites. I don't have any GS'S around here so I can't buy any cookies

Well...neither of my kids like the do-si-dos anyway. They are mine ~ lol. I got me a box. I will probably wait to see how everyone else does first because I am a chicken...

They changed the New England bakery and the Thin Mints are not the same. They were awful. I won't buy them anymore.

Our's are still just perfect...want to make a trade 'oh great one?'...

I think I'm going to be sick....it was just on the news that a local guy, hearing of the recall, fed recalled peanut butter crackers to his small dogs. They both died the next day, despite being rushed to the vet.
Do NOT feed recalled products to animals! :error: If its not safe for you, its not safe your pet.

GS did it with a bunch of places, they went very cheap and very nasty to me. I don't buy their cookies. Some of the companies they work with have failed inspections. :tongue2:
