My husband and family comes from "the old country" around here and they have some really weird saying that I wish would go away...

If my husband and I are having a conversation (or fight) and he asks me a question that I don't have an answer to or I am thinking about, he looks at me and says "SAY!" It makes me fighting mad!

Also, when we are expecting snow they are "speaking for snow".

There are so many more, but I will have to add them later when I can remember them all!!!

Oooh, Tammy! You should collect all that stuff and you could get a PhD in linguistics! I just love that kind of stuff, but I can relate to it being annoying when it comes from family members, and has emotion attached.

I just love the sound of things on Kentucky Island today!

And don't forget, someday, we may be those old folks to our grandkids, but I don't think it will be the same. The world is getting smaller with all the ways we are electronically instantly connected. All those little gems you hate (and I love) will have less of a chance of surviving. Guess you better get to work and start collecting.

I have a friend that always says fun...ny like it is two words instead of one. and then another one that always says "Question" before she asks you ANYTHING!!!

I have just learned that I am such a nit picky person that it isn't fun...ny!!!

"Question, don't you think so?...say!!!"

Ok guys how about the "WELL" saying. I absolutely hate it when someone says something and wants a response from me and then says, "WELL".

Well heck IF I knew what to say I'd have already said it!!

(and I told him well if you're telling me the truth now, how am I supposed to believe what you say when you don't say "to tell you the truth." And third, (my H's ex-wife says this) well, to make a long story short.

One that makes me wince is when people throw "literally" in a sentence and use it incorrectly. And in print, I have had enough of "xtreme" products.

We have a friend that almost finishes EVERY sentence with the phrase "And everything and all and stuff" , by the time she gets a whole conversation out you are pulling your hair out ~ just try saying it a few times after a sentence and you will understand

Whatever...Talk to the hand...my bad...bling...know what I mean...like, you know...

Okay, my most hated phrase "buzzword or phrase" comes from where I work. Why don't you "reach out" to them. I swear I'm gonna "reach out" and punch somebody soon if they keep using that phrase! :x

Deelishus, you don't sound like a "team player". You need to "think outside the box", "redefine the paradigm" and "celebrate diversity". It's all in our mission statement. Argh! Work has its own set of overused phrases and they're just as annoying.

 OMG! Arrrrrrrgghhh!!!! That sounds exactly like where I work. <runs away in terror> :P

I still don't know where they came out with the term "YOU'RE FIRED" sounds like someone telling you that you have been lit

An interesting point. Lee, and close. You are not exactly "lit" but "fired" as in discharged from a gun. I looked it up on the Online Etymology Dictionary and it was first recorded being used in that sense in 1885.
Here is the quote:

"The v. sense of "sack, dismiss" is first recorded 1885 in Amer.Eng., probably from a play on the two meanings of discharge: "to dismiss from a position," and "to fire a gun,"..."
