Preventing headaches

There are many kinds of treatments for stress headaches and migraines, and I have tried them, under doctors' care for years, including meds and dietary restrictions. Usually, there is little relief, so I am thinking from the other side, about prevention, and how to deal with difficult people and situations that trigger the worst headaches. Breathe, laugh...anything else? Thanks.

that is a tough one but if you just don't let it bother you, that might help. I usually don't get many and I just don't allow things to get to me and a certain wolf comes to mind

Thanks, all good advice so far.

I knew this was coming, excellent!

getting rid of the ... spouse!

Lee, did you know that Chocolate Sweepstakes & Giveaways is a big migraine trigger? Oh, forgot, you are always embargoed, so you don't have to worry about that. :) How kind of Wolfie to oversee your migraine prevention. :)

I was going to suggest the getting rid of hubby idea, but I think getting rid of ll1 is a much better idea!

Chocolate actually makes my migraines go away! :headbang:

embargo has had it's pluses and the minus :crazytongue:

Rita ~ because of my blood pressure I can't take the medicines for after you get the headache ~ so the doctor put me on Topamax to prevent...it has worked wonders! With hormones and such it is almost impossible to prevent ~ at least I have never found anything to work!

certain food trigger them for me. Maybe you can keep a journal and write down what you eat, drink, anything unusual that you did that day. If you get a headache write it down. over time you might be able to see a pattern of what is causing them. It took about a month for me to find out that ice cream would trigger a migraine for me. also, heavy perfume smells will trigger one. Thats why I hate going into walmart where women there have never heard of moderation. geezzzzz.

 wolfie wears a lot of choco perfume

That must be why hubby likes to nibble on my ear!

3MN, you are right, strong smells bring on the worst ones!

auto fumes ~ oh my goodness ~ they give me my worst. We have a neighbor that burns and sometimes that will trigger one, but nothing like fumes from old cars and trucks ~ I know what is going to happen when I smell them.

You are right, fumes, smells, even heavy fragrances. I have been doing deep house cleaning today, and sure enough...I avoid what I can, (including house cleaning :)) but sometimes you have to do it.

If you seriously look at the list of migraine triggers, almost everything is on there...caffeine, cheese, wine, chocolate, etc.

I just want to give you a big hug because, I suffer from headaches all the time and they usually turn into migraines. I had a thread here not long ago about migraine headaches and the members here were awesome about sharing ideas and suggestions. I have a hard time getting rid of a headache, toothache, or heck any pain once it begins.

I hope you can figure out a way to end them soon.

My sister, Karen, has them a lot worse than I do ~ they started when she got pregnant with Jocelyn and she has had them ever since. Anyway, not long after she found out that she was pregnant her husband's Uncle died and they had to take a trip to Chicago. Back then it took about 8 hours to get there from here and she said the more she rode the sicker she got. They were in an older car and the fumes were getting to her.

They get to Danny's relative's house (the first time she ever met them) and right as Danny goes to do the intro Karen gets sick and has to go throw up in the bushes...lol!! What a first impression my sister makes!

That was the first time she ever threw up with a migraine, but sadly not the last. They run in families and they are miserable!
