No Country for Old Men ~ B

A hunter (Josh Brolin) stumbles across dead bodies, $2 million cash and a rather large stash of heroin in the dessert. He makes off with the dough and the very brutal and mentally skewed Anton Chigurh (Javier Bardem) hunts after him with a local sheriff (Tommy Lee Jones) on his trail.

Very dark and violent. Definitely not for the kiddos. I really liked it except the ending was sorta a letdown.

This is one of my favorite movies. I watch it a lot. lol.. I actually really liked the ending. considering the kind of character Anton was you would expect him not to go down easy. He was crazy tough. I think his character is the best portrayal of a psychopath I have ever seen. you couldn't beg, plead or buy your way out of what his plans for you were. He was amazing. He deserved the oscar without a doubt.

I didn't like the way it ended with Tommy Lee. I had no problem with the psychopath. He played that role really well and was very convincing.

Plague town~ D ~ now judging the film just on title alone I wasn't expecting a masterpiece. I went into watching this with the realization that it would probably be your typical horror/slasher film and I kinda like those. This was not typical in a good way. The plot is this... An American family, a dysfunctional one, decides to vacation in.. Ireland im guessing and they get lost and run into a crazy town with crazy mutant children. The entire family is annoying and frankly I was rooting for the mutant children.

There are so many things wrong with this film. The acting by most of the cast is horrendous and the plot leaves so many holes and unanswered questions its not funny. The scenes involving the children are laughable. There idea of intense horror is to have the children smack the victims with twigs.. ewwww, scary. The victims just lay there and take it. I wanted to scream kick em! fight back for petes sake!.. ugh! It was just ridiculous.

There were a couple of decent gory scenes but really who cares. I was so over this movie half way through I shouldn't have even finished it.

Luc Besson's Taxi. The French one, NOT the remake. English subtitles are a little off but its great. I mean, if you like humorous car chase movies. I just had to stop watching vampires for a second. Will start the British series Ultraviolet (not like the movie) shortly.

 I know the feeling.I had to stop watching them as well. Im on a bit of werewolf kick now.. I just finished the ginger snaps series.

Lilja 4-ever~ B ~ subtitled. This is by a Swedish director but the story mainly takes place in Russia. Plot~ Lilja is a 16 yr old girl who's mother has a new man in her life and decides to move to America with him, leaving Lilja in Russia to take care of herself. As you can imagine things dont go well for her. This is a very dark, depressing and realistic look at what can happen to young girls who have no one to take care of them and they fall victim to men who would use them. The acting in this is great and the way its shot is sooo realistic its sometimes disturbing.

There are sweet parts as well. Lilja has a friend Volodya who also has his share of family drama and they cling to each other. Its sweet and sad at the same time. Its definitely a movie I will not forget. Bring tissues.

ETA~ I forgot to add this is loosely based on a real person, Danguole Rasalaite.

yes I watched another one. I cant help it. Im a movie junkie. I need an intervention.

Portrait of a Beauty~ A ~ subtitled. Its a south Korean movie. Plot~ It takes place in 18th century. A family of court painters discover that their heir isnt talented. His sister has been painting and letting him pass it off as his own. after he is found out he kills himself. The father in fear of being disgraced dresses the daughter up as a boy and sends her off to court to paint... She falls in love and thats when the problems start.

I am not a romance movie kind of gal. In fact I typically avoid them like the plague. However, I read great things about the cinematography so I decided to give it a try. wow... Its beautiful. Not just visually but the story itself. Its amazing. The acting, costumes.. everything is top notch. Im glad I gave this one a try.

Last one for awhile. I gotta get some sleep.

Statistics~ I need to break this one up into categories. Concept~ A~ Execution of concept~ D ~ Acting~ D ~ The plot~ the story of six individuals who all share one thing in common: they will become statistics by the end of the day.~~ That is the official plot but its misleading.

Its more than six characters and it makes the movie drag. The stories are not really connected and it bounces back and forth between them which would be ok if there werent so many.. It did hold my interest in so much that I had to see how it ended. Its a very low budget movie and the acting by most is not good. Its like a bunch of friends got together and decided to make a movie. Well more friends kept showing up wanting a part. I wouldnt watch it again but did find the concept of the movie interesting.

Lesbian Vampire Killers~B ~ If you cant guess from the title it is a comedy/horror film.. my fave. The plot~ An ancient curse turns all girls who turn 18 into vampires in this small British town. Two friends on holiday are suckered into becoming dinner.

Its hilarious. Its not as funny as shaun of the dead but if you liked that you may like this.

Scarface~ A, of course ~ This one needs no explanation. One of my all time favorite movies. I may watch The Godfather later then... Drum roll please... Pulp Fiction.. why not? whats another view, I have only seen them 150 times each. I have gone from vampires to werewolves to gangsters.

It was strange.

If you can only see one movie right now see Star Trek and wait for this on DVD.

I'd give this one a C-. How many times can 1 guy crash or get blown up in one day and walk away from it. The movie is good for action but they forgot to piece together the story line...

yep, no real plot at all. It was lame. Another thing, *Spoiler* *SPOILER*** dont continue reading if you havent seen the movie...

Marcus is the machine(granted he doesnt realize it until later) but he has more emotion and likability than Connor. He is the hero, not Connor.. Connors character is like a mindless machine..and honestly his whole we gotta save reese so I can be the hero of the day, the savior,... blah.. was just to self serving for my taste. How can you connect with someone like that. Hes cold. I dont know, It just felt wrong. I cant blame Bale, of course  he really didnt have much to work with.

Agreed-They gave Bale next to nothing to work with. If the writers upcoming triple X movie is this lame, Vin will be taking cake decorating classes through the entire thing....

As long as he is shirtless while doing it I dont care.

Gladiator
~ A ~ I looooove Russell Crowe. IMO he is the best actor working right now. I think he is amazing. This movie rocks. This is another movie I quote often :crazytongue:

Red~ A ~ Plot~~ from imdb, A reclusive man sets out for justice and redemption when three troublesome teens kill his dog for no good reason..

This movie was such a surprise to me. I loved it. Its not anything new really. Revenge stories and stories about people being wronged have been around forever but this one was better than most. Its got an amazing cast, the acting is top notch. Its very well done. give this one a try.

Wall-E~B~ Im watching this now, for the 50th time  This isnt my favorite pixar movie, that would be monsters inc, and it isnt my least favorite, that would be cars but its a very cute movie. I love M.O..

Girl interrupted~ B ~ I was in the mood for crazy last night  If you haven't seen this you should check it out. It has a great cast and Jolie is amazing as the likable but totally crazy and cruel Lisa. Its set in a mental institution.. Ryders character goes after she tries to kill herself. She isnt really crazy, not like the others at least.

The Dresden Files (TV series) I love the books but what is Nick Cage ON? This is not like the books and is weirdly edited with bad continuity problems. I love the Scottish guy who plays Dresden, and the guy who plays the ghost but they are suffering with difficult scripts and erratic development. Buy the books.

coraline~ B Animated~ Plot~ An adventurous girl finds another world that is a strangely idealized version of her frustrating home, but it has sinister secrets

This is not a kids movie. Not young children anyway. I found it really creepy. Its an interesting story and it looks great but I was surprised at how disturbing parts of it were. Its got neglectful parents, dead kids, taking of eyeballs... Its just bizarre. I did enjoy it though. it was entertaining.
