Resort type vacation spots in the United States

Just wondering if you guys could give me any ideas you may have on summer vacation spots here in the states. I would love to stay here and there are so very many places I have never gone. But, and it's a BIG but,,,it's just so much more expensive to vacation here compared to going out of the country. Where have you guys been that you would go to again and again. Would love to go to a beach-resort type place. Let me know if you have any good suggestions

:sunny: I'll bet if you give us a little more information like what you like to do on vacation. Kids or no kids, if you are taking children what are their ages? Will you be flying or driving? What state do you live in? Do you have a vacation time set yet, if not when were you thinking of going? Once you decide where you want to go come back and let us know. There are members here from everywhere and that can be a big help with local information.
Answering some of these questions will make it easier for other members to give you the ideas you are looking for. Personally, being from Michigan, I love Traverse City, Mackinaw City and Island. Now that I live in Oregon, if you have the time travel the Pacific Coast Highway. There is so much to see and do from the top of Washington to the tip of California.

Panama City beach Florida. I love the white sand. I haven't been there in a long time but itused to be really nice.
