Restless leg syndrome???

 Anyone deal with this? Ok I admit, I'm not in the best of shape. I'm overweight. But I am only 23 years old. My freakin legs are killing me. Within the last few years. After having my daughter, I started packing on the lbs. Well Usually 7 or 8 times a year I would have this restless leg stuff. My legs tingle, and it drives me nuts. It feels like I need to run. I cant sleep, cant sit down, without having to get up and walk, or move my legs a bunch of times. Its like OCD of the legs.
Well for the past 3 days its been horrible. It is now really starting to hurt. I still cant sleep. Last night I only got 5 hours of sleep. (only because I took two tylenol pms.) Well does anyone know about this stuff? Is there a way to stop it? The only thing I can think of is eating better and exercising. I havent been back to the gym in two weeks, so I think that might be another reason.

 I'VE DONE THAT ...WOKE UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT AND HAVE TO HURRY UP AND get up and WALK AROUND...if it matters i'm 28 years old

While restless leg syndrome is getting all the advertising time what with a new drug being approved for it there are a huge variety of other disorders which cause leg issues. There is peripheral neuropathy (which I have) Vit D deficency (a big problem right now, even in little kids, here is an article http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/09/29/earlyshow/contributors/emilysenay/main575526.shtml )
Everybody in my house is on prescription D right now-its supposed to be at least 32 and mine was 13, my Mom's was 19 and my roommate's was 20. No wonder we hurt all over  We're all running around asking each other "did you take your D?" all the time:crazytongue:
Then there is also peripheral artery disease, which can be rather a big worry because you can get a blood clot and die (which can be a negative life changing event, from what I understand )

When in doubt, you may want to write down the symptoms and go to your doc. Anything that hurts bad enough to keep you awake is generally a bad thing which you may wish to consider looking into. There are effective medications and treatments for pretty much every cause of leg pain. In some people who have had kids, its because the uterus has shifted and is pressing on a nerve which goes to your legs. Lots of possible causes!

Edited to add-I wish I would quit reporting my own posts to a moderator whenever I want to edit them. The mods must think I'm crazy...wait, I am crazy, what am I saying... :error:

Tiff Im sure a small amount is your weight/ blood pressure but did you know and Im covering the guys eyes incase this grosses them OUT :sleepy: MEN sleep :sleepy: That RLS is also related to WOMEN who have PUSHED too hard in child birth. I know you have a young one at home and you had her not to long agao. It can and will effect your spine , back, LEGS for many years in some cases & some women need a cane a few years after to walk. Im sure its a comBo. :sunny: PUT on that Richard Simmons CD & exercise sunshine :sunny:

 Red & I think alike .. That is scarey  We almost answer every TOPIC forum the same THINKING. TOO funny

 Im not a NURSE Tiff but I believe from all my training & my OLD age hun if your legs TINGLE your not getting the correct blood to or from your HEART ,brain and to your LEGS which is nothing to PLAY with. You could have high blood pressure which you need medications for even at 23. Of course any doc is gonna say diet exercise LOOSE weight and LOOK like OLIVE OIL which I know with all my heart is HARD. Just like RED has said also those epidurals /eclamp meds can effect you for many years on top of your uteris changing & Hormones . Check with your CLOSE doctor who knows you well and make sure she follows you not JUST once.

I was up riding my stationary bike last night at 1 in the morning. It seemed to help. I finally got to sleep at two.

:error: Heart attacks are a NUMBER 1 killer of women ALSO :error: ONE gyn will tell you RUNNING is not good for females Brings down the UT wall & headlite wall ANOTHER will tell you your over all body needs it RUN .You really have to learn & listen to your OWN body to know whats good for you. That stationary bike is really GOOD for you but 1 am??? I hope its not a SQEEKER

Tiff ~ I agree with Red on the Vitamin D! I had the very same problem before my kidney failure. I still have to some degree but not like before. I am SO much better!! You might need to have a doc run a panel on vitamins and iron maybe calcium. It doesn't matter what your age or weight is you can be sick. The tests may cost a little in the beginning, but in the long run will be cheaper than all the expensive medication that they will want to throw at you for RLS!! Plus the benefits are wonderful!!! Just my thoughts!!

And yes, the card was from me!!

 Drink LOTS of MILK  Its VIT D plus TAKE the vits D & VIT B12!!! ( energy) & IRON lol LORD I feel like we are making the BIONIC woman lol I had some doctor give me 4 SHOTS a day one time in each one of my hips on a hospitil stay :cussing: My HIPS still hurt lol j/k but he killedd me with those SHOTS.

I hate it!! I dont know if humidty makes it worse or not but when I lived in florida my legs would bother me every single night. Now that I live in IL it doesnt seem to be as bad. The medicine they make for it has to many side effects for me. They do make herbel stuff for it. dont know if it works though.

Hi all,

I woke up from an extensive surgery years ago with what turned out to be RLS. For several years I just learned to live with it, but when I was finally exhausted from lack of sleep --- and grouchy besides --- and my husband slept on the couch practically every night, because I was kicking the heck out of him, I went to the Dr. I have been on prescription meds ever since. I have not tried any of the ones advertised --- my doctor advised against Requip --- because what I'm taking, although not the drug of choice, is working for me. You know the old adage --- 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'. Without taking prescription drugs, you might want to add some extra magnesium to your diet as that helped my daughter and I take it in addition to the Rx meds. There is no one perfect answer for this malady as each person reacts differently to different treatments. There are RLS support groups in many parts of the U.S.

Good luck. I sure do empathize with you. It'll drive you nuts until you get it under control.

I just came across this, been behind on emails. I'm wondering if it could possibly be your nerves bothering. With the lack of sleep it would definitely make it worse. As you can see by the time of this email, I have severe insomnia problems. When I do finally fall asleep my legs will sometimes start to bother me a lot. It is from my nerves and it feels like pins pricking me all over. I average about 2 to 3 hours of sleep a night. There have been many times that I have stayed up 24+ hours and not been able to go to sleep. Just another thought.

I have diagnosed with RLS. I had to go thru a sleep test. they prescribed requip and lunesta for my condition . the medicine did not seem to relive it enough to take a pill every night so I do not take it. and the lunesta leaves a very horrible after taste that last all day (a side affect that I just happened to get) so I don't take it either. the only thing that seems to help me is to take a very hot bath or to do leg stretches. exercise does help. when I have one of these attacks it feels like you are going to go crazy if you do not stretch or move your legs. I thought I was having panic attacks for awhile but it turns out it is not. I sympathize with anyone who has this condition.

and the lunesta leaves a very horrible after taste that last all day (a side affect that I just happened to get) so I don't take it either.

Dysgeusia (the bitter metallic taste) is the most common side effect with lunesta. Always nice to have company

Just an update, my legs have felt alot better, and I'm finally getting sleep. I've been trying to strech my legs, and walk alot, before I go to sleep. Seems to help.

Lunesta ~ YUCK!!! I couldn't hack that aftertaste!!! It was so nasty!

They think Requip was what made me pass out ~ just for your mental notes, it does have some side effects like that.
