I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one. Anti virus keeps popping up while on here. This all started since the new format change over. :/

Who is your anti-virus provider? I'm not getting any alerts from Microsoft Anti-virus. Your not the only one? Who else is is getting it? Thanks

There is one specific sweeps (and I can't remember now which one it is) that I get a warning from but I think it is one of those pop up thingys that wants to scan your computer and then tells you you have all these problems so you will buy their 'cleaner'. It is only the one sweeps and the so called anti virus that tells me I have a problem is not the one I use. I have McAfee.

Whenever I get a warning from my antivirus I follow the links to ID it, then do a search - 9 times out of 10, it's a false positive.

I think this is related to the security holes in Java. I haven’t had a problem since I uninstalled Java. Several times previously, my Norton blocked various Malware and Trojans. None of this happened when I logged on to SA, only when I open a sweep. The only sweep I can recall was Bob Villa – 2003 Love Your Laundry Sweepstakes.

lol - I was just coming back to say that! Homeland Security is telling everyone to block/uninstall JAVA, and FF automatically blocked it on me!

There are articles all over the internet. Just Google Java security holes or Java Malware and you’ll find ‘em. I just uninstalled Java last Fri., as I couldn’t figure out how to do the “disable” that the articles talk about. So far, the missing Java file hasn’t created any problems for me.

I disabled java and the only thing I cant do now is play games on pogo - my sweeps are fine so far though and thats what matters to me.

I just opened the Bob Villa sweep and my Norton blocked the Fake AV Download 2. This is at least the 2nd time it has blocked that download from that sweep.

Hmmm..I have Avast anti virus as does my neighbor. Both of us keep getting the threat detected when logged on here. I'll try reloading java..Thanks everyone

For IE - go to ALL PROGRAMS>CONTROL PANEL>ADD/REMOVE>JAVA

Open JAVA's CONTROL PANEL>select the JAVA tab>click on VIEW and MANAGE and uncheck ENABLED, click apply/OK.

For FF - TOOLS>ADDONS>PLUGINS, and select DISABLE for any JAVA you see

So I think it's safe to assume that there are no threats on SA. To follow up on this SA hired a service to scan our site daily for any virus or malware related problems.
When it finds any problems or potential problems I am emailed right away. We have not had any "potential" security problems since last November when our old
forum software had a security hole. That was taken care of right away and we no longer use SMF forum.
