Tojans/Viruses etc. from Sweeps Sites?

Unfortunately, I haven't heard of any ways to prevent this popup from occurring, and it can pop up at any given time while on any given site regardless of what anti-virus/anti-spyware one is running.

This morning my Norton Anti-virus blocked an attack on my computer twice, both times after clikning at the Point Click Home sweepstakes. I think I will just give up on those for a while. Is there a way to let them know that the site may not be safe? There was no pop up of any kind, just Norton letting me know that it had blocked an attack.

For "Point Click Home", my anti-virus/anti-spyware program determined:

pointclickhome.com site has been verified as safe to access and to send information.

The site ownership has been identified.
The owner of the site has been identified as actively conducting business.
The site and its owner are located in countries that are not likely suspected.
The site is not on a scamming or phishing blacklist

I've been entering these everyday also without any problems.

I've had it happen several times, but not on any of the sites mentioned in this thread, although I do believe they occured on some other magazine sites but can't recall which ones.

QUESTION: Which anti-virus program do you use? I have been running Windows Live OneCare and have been satisfied with it, but it has been discontinued by Microsoft and will expire in March.

I use this one:

Before CA, I was mainly buying the new version of Norton every year; but I really was never happy with it. Our internet provider started offering CA free to it's subscribers. So, I switched over. I love this program so much that I am willing to pay for it if ever I can't get it for free again.

Aaargh! I just this minute got it while on Pointclick!!

You guys should feel fortunate. I've been searching around for more information about these fake program popups, and some people are saying they are popping up at every website they visit! :error:

I did find this:

Delete The Virus Scan Pop-Up

Step 1 Press control + alt + delete to bring up your Task Manager. If you are using a Mac, press option+command+escape.

Step 2 Click on the "Processes" tab.

Step 3 Search for anything that says "AV09.exe" and right click on it.

Step 4 Select "Open File Location" from the drop-down menu. Delete the file that opens when you do this. Then, while "AV09.exe" is still highlighted, click "End Processes." This should get rid of the malicious popup.

At about 6:55 O'clock P.M. on 2/15 I clicked on Woman's Day bluetooth sweeps and had the virus warning pop-up and it immediately started downloading something. I clicked off of it right away. This happened to me on the same site day before yesterday. I didn't do sweeps yesterday hoping it would be corrected. Well it is still there. BEWARE I ran my virus scan the first time and I will now run it again just in case something got through on my computer. I think I stopped it in time.

I've been searching around the internet trying to find out how this fake pop up works.

I'm no tech. So, maybe someone else can explain it better.

From my understanding after reading stuff on Microsoft and CNET, it's not coming directly from any site per se. Hackers have set this up to hack into some kind of programs and/or services  that many websites use. It's using these programs/services as portals to come through any particular site you may go on using these programs/services.

So, it's not discriminitive. You can have it pop up at any kind of site not just sweepstakes sites, magazine sites, etc.

We are behind China with security on the internet. I saw it on news today and Russia is quickly catching up with China so I guess that makes our security not the tops to be bought ya think? If the security schools can't keep up with the worldwide web intrusions and hackers how can the companies stay ahead of them...just my thoughts and not meant to harm or hurt anyone. Sigh my net down today took a wiz to get me back on. I made it! :sunny: Update last news 5000 companies were hacked and a sophistication trojan was just discovered including "Google" so no suprise they are mad. We found it just lately and it went out in 2008. Hmmm tink its bad news for sweepstakes or if you shop online. Got new download from Microsoft today. Yippe they might have it fixed after 2 years? Might wanna update if ya use it.
