So, I was notified a few weeks ago that I won the FGL Cruise Contest! Its a 5 day cruise to the Bahamas and includes air transport to Miami, cruise, and lots of other goodies onboard the cruise, including the FGL concert and meet and greet. As much as I would have LOVED to have gone, the cruise happens to be on my mom's birthday and something (Hello God?) kept telling me to ask if I could transfer the prize. Thankfully the sponsor said YES! I decided to gift this win to my mom and my stepdad - they never got to take a honeymoon after their wedding and they both still work so hard to make ends meet that they probably wouldn't have taken a trip anytime soon.
My husband and I travel a lot (military, work, vacations, etc) and I have been pretty lucky in the trip wins category (4th trip win in 1.5 years!) - so I thought it was the right thing to do to pay it forward and let someone else have a break. You know, when I was telling my mom, part of me was thinking, what are you doing?!?! Keep that trip!! But when my mom started to cry and said "nothing like this ever happens to me" I knew that I made the right choice. I think with sweeping sometimes I personally get so caught up in "getting stuff" and "selling stuff I won and don't need" that I forget how valuable and important these things would also mean if simply GIVEN to someone else, and sometimes more valuable or meaningful to someone else than to me.
So while I am not actually taking the trip, I still consider myself a winner
And honestly, I think seeing my mom and stepdad so excited and already counting down (umm..its not till November!), is even better than taking the trip myself!
I just hope my dad and stepmom aren't upset with me lol! Ahhh the joys of blended families!
Just wanted to share my story and a small lesson I learned in my sweeping journey...ok enough sentimental stuff...back to contests!
Here's to a prosperous 2014 full of lots of great wins for us all!
