Vacation Win Etiquette

Last year I won a trip to Las Vegas. My mom & I will be taking that trip soon. :sunny: I sent a thank you letter along with all of the paperwork last year.

My questions are:

1. Should we tip the chauffeurs the hotel is providing us with for transportation to/from their hotel and McCarran Airport?

2. Is it proper to send a 2nd thank you note after returning from the trip?

We won't be meeting anyone from the contest but the hotel is one of their vendors or business partners. To my knowledge we do not have a direct contact at the hotel. I am encouraged to call the awesome gal who's from the sponsoring company or travel agency if we need any help.

All advice is greatly appreciated. I'm excited but you should see my mom. She has a countdown going and tells me nearly every day. I've held back on telling her about the driver who will be waiting for us with my name on a sign because she keeps talking about how cool that would be. Surprise!

Congratulations!

I am no expert but here are my thoughts:

1. I tipped my driver because he gave us such great service. He appreciated the tip and did not even know that we were contest winners.

2. I have thanked the providers of my prizes numerous occasions; they have always been happy to hear how things went.

Congratulations - I am so glad you are able to share your win with your mom!

 As Z stated I always tip the drivers and anyone else that gives me good service. Sponsors always appreciate thank you notes. How wonderful that you and your mother can enjoy this trip together. I'm sure that you both are going to have a fantastic time!

...we tipped everybody! Our sponsor was so generous we barely paid for anything, we were especially excited to get to the airport and realize we didn't have to pay the luggage fees...so we definately had xtra money for generous tipping! ...have a blast!

The sponsor is covering airfare, hotel, transportation to/from McCarran Airport & the hotel, and also a $250 gift card to use at the hotel's restaurants/gift shop/spa. :sunny: We're flying an airline without baggage fees.

Thanks, everyone. I'll put some cash aside for tipping the driver(s). I love writing letters so I'll certainly send a thank you note when we get back.

As zwriter noted, whomever you get a service from won't even know {until your mom tells them! } that this was a win, and when they do find out? Their expectations will probably be low, since their experience is {from what I've observed over the years here in LV} that when people are comped, they tend to base their tip on what they actually pay out!!! :nono:

Good to see you get it fan007 - tipping should be predicated on service, not anything else IMHO - I so wish I could be a fly on the wall when you shatter that driver's {low} expectations!!! :crazytongue:

btw - Have fun!!! :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:
