what are you reading?

I love Stephen King, but I have started Duma Key twice and only gotten through a couple of chapters...I did just get finished reading You've Been Warned by James Patterson and Pandora's Box by Natale Stenzel the last was a surprise autographed win that showed up last week and was different and interesting.

Will start on Duma Key again and see if I can get any further ~ right now I have three books going so I imagine it will probably get laid to the side again :crazytongue:

I finished reading The Riven Kingdom last night... It was sooooooo good. Better than the first one for sure. The first one was good but kind of dark. The characters were not nice and the entire story was disturbing. This one is much lighter with only a few parts with some of the more hateful characters from the first book. now the third one I think will be more of a combination of the two. Its going to have to be. I wonder how long I have to wait for it to come out.

To long I'm sure...that is the only thing I hate about getting a new book when it first comes out...then you have to wait for the next one ~ it is just mean!!

tell me about it. I started reading Terry Goodkind's The sword of truth series when the first book came out in 1994.. The last one was published last year. over ten years for the series to reach its conclusion. It was eleven books. I have all of them in paperback and hardcover. except for confessor.. waiting on paperback. I have read them all more than once.. Faith of the fallen and wizards first rule at least 20x each. Its my all time favorite series of books. I love them.

That is the way with the Left Behind books...it started out with like 2 a year and when they became so popular went to 1 a year...I'm sorry, but that is crazy...I read them in like 1 day and then wait 364 days for the next one...I almost could write my own in that amount of time

I know this is kinda old but didnt want to start a new thread..

Im reading The name of the wind by Patrick Rothfuss... I love it. It is so good. From the very first paragraph I was hooked. It is a fantasy novel but not in the typical sense.. It does have magic but not done in a over the top kind of way that you see in a lot of fantasy books.. gsw.. I think you would really like this one.. you should check it out... description from the back cover of the book..

My Name is Kvothe

I have stolen princesses back from sleeping barrow kings. I burned down the town of Trebon. I have spent the night with Felurian and left with both my sanity and my life. I was expelled from the University at a younger age than most people are allowed in. I tread paths by moonlight that others fear to speak of during day. I have talked to Gods, loved women, and written songs the minstrels weep.

you may have heard of me...

so begins a tale unequaled in fantasy literature--- the story of a hero told in his own voice. It is a tale of sorrow, a tale of survival, a tale of one man's search for meaning in his universe, and how that search, and the indomitable will that drove it, gave birth to a legend.

even if you arent a fantasy novel fan you might like this..

I finally finished Fast Track, part of the Sisterhood Series by Fern Michaels and am getting ready to read the latest in that same series called Collateral Damage.

Just found John Saul...found one of his books on clearance at Kroger the other day and I am hooked. He is in the horror genre. I bid and won 11 of his books on ebay the other day ~ love his writing style...

Sounds good 3mnkids. I'm going to write it down and look for it.

Any fantasy fans of Robert Jordan's here awaiting the final (posthumous, to be written from notes and instructions) book of The Wheel of Time series?

I gotta get the rest of them.. the first two were good. The first one was really, really good.

I used to read john saul alot back when I read alot of horror.. I always liked him better than stephen king..
my favorite's are.. The God Project and Creature

I like John Saul too. I used to be the world's biggest book fan and was always buying any books I could find --at yardsales, flea markets, freecycle, etc. I probably have a few hundred UNREAD books in my collection. I do not have much time lately to read books so they have accumulated and gotten out of hand. I still pick up one or two here and there. I also enter giveaways for books still. I love to read book blogs and there are so many currently released books that are reviewed and I always say "I want to read that one day!" My "to be read" list is at least a mile long! HA!

I have also started to reread the Naria books ~ loved them as a kid! Bought them for Ashelyn and she doesn't care for them yet...

Escape by Carolyn Jessup....what an interesting book - I highly recommend it. It's about the polygamist sect that was recently on the news...and how she escaped with her many kids.

ok I just finished The name of the wind by Patrick Rothfuss and I can say it was the best book I have ever read. EVER. I have read more books than I care to count and this one blew me away. I tried to take my time with it. I have a tendency to just sit down and read till im done. I didnt want to do that with this one. unfortunately I finished the last 400 pages or so today. I couldnt put it down and now I have nothing to read.. hmm, think I will read it again.

oooh, 3mkids - what's it about? I'm always interested in a book that someone else has read and said it's good (I get tired of buying them and not liking them!)...do tell!

Here is the authors website.. http://www.patrickrothfuss.com/content/books.asp Its considered fantasy. Its also been compared or called harry potter for adults.. but I dont see that.. harry potter has a lot of magic and mythical creatures like a lot of fantasy novels have.. this one wasnt like that. It did have magic but not in the traditional sense.. Its the story of a boy.. told by the boy.. when he is grown. its his story. Its got it all.. excitement, drama, a little bit of romance.. not much.. he is a kid after all. Its sad in parts too. Its just a really good story.

Even if you arent a fan of fantasy or have never really read any you should check it out.

Hell: Separate truth from fiction and get your toughest questions answered (Paperback)

In November of 1998, God allowed Bill Wiese to experience the reality of hell. He chronicled his experiences in his New York Times best-selling book, 23 Minutes in Hell, describing a place of never-ending trauma, burning fire, and unquenchable thirst; a place where you are hopelessly lost and without human intervention forever.

In his follow-up book, Hell, Wiese digs even deeper into the topic, providing a complete and ready reference on what hell is really like. Tackling your most common--and most important--questions head-on, he supplements his personal testimony with thorough biblical research and fascinating additional stories.

Bill's vision has penetrated millions of hearts and is bringing the message of eternity back to the forefront.
--Jentezen Franklin, pastor and author of the New York Times best seller, Fasting

This could be one of the most valuable books you have ever read.
--Dr. Norvel Hayes

Bill Wiese's story is the most credible I have ever investigated.
--Sid Roth, host, It's Supernatural! TV

This was the book I was ordering the other day from Amazon. I read the first one about a year ago and this one is very detailed and has a lot of good points.
