I received a Letter with affy that I am supposed to sign and have notarized and a copy of my drivers License etc, etc. Get this it is for a &2.00 bottle opener, they expect me to pay a notary, postage to mail back and make copy of my drivers License all For a $2.00 opener they can keep it LOL

Yeah, sounds like a lot of work for a bottle opener. Are you positive that is all the prize is? And for future reference you can get things notarized for free at your bank.

If there is a phone number where you can verify the prize I would call. Never heard of an affy for something valued so low!!!

Sponsors can, and will, require your info, SSN, and a notary & some sponsors use the same form for any prize they give away.

I've been asked to have a form notarized for a $20 Bissell, a $10 t-shirt and a $5 5-hour energy prize.

I contacted the sponsor each time to see if they *really* meant it. The Bissell was the only prize I actually got, since I chose not to get the forms notarized for the other 2.

Bottom line? Read the rules - they will usually have verbiage to CYA that states they can do this, and you just have to decide if it's worth it to you or not.

Re: grammywolf

I got the same thing yesterday to have an affadavid signed for a 14.00 napkin holder not sure if im even gonna bother. gltya

Many times I've read posts where the winner took the time to contact the sponsor to determine if they *had* to do an affy when they won a lower tier prize - most of the time, the answer was yes.

But, unless you ask, you don't know if they only had one type of form and only those who won prizes worth $600 or more really needed to get the form notarized.

I guess the people doing the fulfillment just assume?

btw - by law, even those $1.00 wins are supposed to be reported on your taxes, so maybe the sponsor requires the affy as a paper trail to offset their taxes somehow?

I received the same letter for a $14 napkin holder. The bank will notarize it for free, so I may do it just so I can see what napkin holder is.

See, I'd do a BLINGO and/or Swagbucks search to try to win something and discover what it could look like at the same time :crazytongue:

 I guess you have to decide how bad you need a bottle opener!
Congratulations on getting the win.

 After years of doing the instant win sweeps for the travel channel trips, I won a set of 2 tumblers (glass) worth $6. I was suprised to get an affy for it. I didn't bother to claim it. Glad to hear other people feel the same way.
