I for one have always entered, never won anything and don't know of anybody winning so far,and have always gotten confrimations.I do not know what is going on but someone needs to find out. :sunny:

They are dishonest about the newsletter... you can't unsubscribe even if you try. They send the newsletter from alternating accounts ([email protected], [email protected].), I think they are up to the letter "R".

Read the 3rd link down on this google search below... Rip-off report.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=wildaboutmovies+fraud

I believe the lady.

Also, a question for website mods techs... For a site that claims it has millions of subscribers, can Gmail, Yahoo and AOL even do newsletter management? Those are for personal accounts right?... Also isn't sending mass e-mails to more than 100-500 people violate their policies?

The e-mails are not based on their domain. They send the e-mails from AOL and you unsubscribe using Gmail? I must have missed that merger.

/I'll shut up now. ... and rest my case.

Ken, the poll options don't cover my opinion, so I'll add it here - I get their newsletter, have had no problems with ownership or spam, BUT feel that all of this is VERY fishy, and do not feel that it should be a part of SA's offerings. I no longer enter any of their contests, and hope that I'm savvy enough to avoid the scams, but always feel that SA should be a haven for new sweepers and people who aren't savvy with the internet and technology in general. There are many sites I've taken issue with here in the past - not because I personally have had bad experiences with them, but because what they seem to be about leave newer users vulnerable to internet predators (of all kinds).

If WAM's legitimacy cannot be verified, if they are hostile to people who ask questions, and if we don't know people who have won their contests, I see no reason to continue offering our users as fodder for whatever their goal is.

Quite frankly, I think this is a witch hunt. The OP's claims cannot be legitimately proven. I think he has a personal vendetta against WAM and is trying to bring them down. My guess is that they had problems/issues with this person, sent him that email, and now he's mad and wants to get even.

Most importantly, this is quite unfair given that they should be invited here to defend themselves. The OP sounds very much like a member at another site that tried to do the same thing to The Celebrity Cafe. I really think this is quite unfair giving the OP such credence.

Not to mention, running a search, I can come up with more positive things about WAM than the OP can find negative.

I said earlier I wanted to enter them. I'm not so sure now. I don't know anything about this kind of stuff so I have to rely on others that do know, dougiezero and admin. If they think there may be a problem with the site I vote stop listing them.

If you run a search, you can very easily see this is a legitimate site. Many, many reputable websites like Gather.com list them. Here is a quote from just one person who has used their passes from another site.

"Not always. I've been to dozens of screenings and it's very inconsistent. Wildaboutmovies.com though gives out so many that all they'll do is take the piece of paper. I went to "Little Miss Sunshine" and since they were overbooked, they handed out passes for next weeks show to anyone that wanted them, INCLUDING people who weren't there for the screening.
However, you should be prepared to wait in line for a long time (90+ minutes) and risk not being admitted since they *may* be checking names.
I've also noticed that it's the radio/tv stations & newspapers that check for names since they give out only a dozen passes or so."

I suggest everyone do their homework and not rely on the accusations of one person.

I can provide links for everything I have claimed if you would like. I'm only pointing to incidents, claims, stories and things they are doing that has raised red flags to me. I'm happy to have a discussion about this. The mods can close this thread at any time if they feel it's out of line.

Who am I?... I'm a member of SA. I don't use the forums much, but I love to try and win DVD's, gift cards and video games.

I don't have a vendetta.

With all due respect, Gather.com is place where users can just post links. And your quote you provided about passes I didn't really understand.

"Not to mention, running a search, I can come up with more positive things about WAM than the OP can find negative."

Please share your links, I'm curious to see them... I've only found negative stuff.

I can post just as many links to information contradicting your posts also. Who are you?

Apparently, you are a member of alot of sites relating to movies. Which makes me think more so that you had some falling out with WAM and are out for blood. You barely have any posts here; and, all of a sudden, you have an interest in posting.

I checked WAM's domain, and it's legit.

P.S. You only found the negative, because that's all you are interested in.

Witch Hunt? Thats a little over board. I posted a poll to request user feedback so that we can find out what the consensus is. Unless you have a problem with this sort of democratic voting process I suggest we let other people speak and hear them out. Like what was said below the ultimate goal of the site is to give all of our members the best chance at winning sweepstakes. I use that goal to decide what sweepstakes are listed on SA and which are not.

And BTW, unless they are a sponsor of SA their listing here is a privledge not a right.

Thank You,

Ken

Maybe witch hunt is over the top, and I don't have a problem with the poll whatsoever, and I know their listing here is a privelege. However, I've seen this exact same thing happen at another site; and because of that person entries from that site dropped and the claims were absolutely unfounded.

In all fairness, I think WAM should be invited to address these allegations.

You posted a link to my personal myspace page... to prove that movies was one my many interests? I own over 5,000 DVD's and consider myself a huge film buff, it's my passion....my hobby. I've been a member here since 2004 (longer than you). I promise the SA mods that I'm not a communist spy.

How did you check WAM's domain? (question 1)
I would like to see those positive links (question 2)

We are going to extend this voting time because we didn't get much participation. Please cast your vote if you can especially if you have actually won from WAM. Thank You. :)

I did not vote in the poll because there was no category for a non-winner who entered regularly, and is now very concerned and no longer entering WAM sweeps. Should I check the category "Spam Issues," meaning "concerned about spam"??

Blackleatherrain's statement matches my thoughts very closely:

Thank you for continuing to poll SA members to address this issue.

WOWOWOW Holy macaroni BATMAN... I just saw this posting. I will not EVER enter another one of these contests from WILD... That response is LOW... Dont let him scare YOU with that trash.

Hi All.... I ususally only post in the winners forum but found this and read the whole thread this morning. I have been entering Wild About Movies contests for about 2 years now. No, I haven't won anything...yet.

I have a pass to a movie premier here in Tampa for Jan 14 for a move called THE SAVAGES. I printed this from the Wild About Movies website.

I am planing to go and if I have ANY problems with the pass I will let everyone know.

Here in Tampa our newspaper gives out TONS of free passes. I have been getting those for about a year now. I have been to premiers of big moves like Transformers and The Golden Compass so I know about being at the theater early, cell phones off, no camera phones allowed, etc.

Because of this thread, I am very curious now if my pass will be accepted or not.

I will return and post to let everyone know what happened and if the passes they are giving out are accepted at the theater.
