6.1 is my current temp with a wind chill of -11 and a dew point of -9. Wind cihll advisory until 10AM and just read the just read the weather message. . ."a brisk westerly wind combining with an artic air mass to create extremely cold wind chills." Two things wrong about that, "brisk" hardly describes the wind that slammed my face this morning and "extremely cold wind chills" should never, ever be uttered by anyone. :twisted:

I hope everyone made it through through the cold weekend just fine. I especially hope everyone`s car started up. It was cold enough to cause one of my cars to play dead when I turned the key. Thankfully my other car had a newer battery. It started and successfully resuscitated the dead one. It usually has to dip to -20 or lower before cars start having trouble and this weekend it was very close. Here in town the low temperature on Sunday was -18. A handful of our weather watchers reported lows in the -20 to -25 range and the coldest was -30 in Prentice. The real story on Sunday was the reocrd setting high temperature. It was a record because the mercury did not rise much at all. The record was for the coldest high temperature on for February 5th. The old record was -7 set back in 1989. The high temperature on Sunday was only -9. Yikes!
More cold weather is on the way for today but we will probably not break any records. The coldest high temp record for today is -5. I am expected a high temp of -3. It will be our 3rd day in a row with mostly sunny skies and temps below zero. Tomorrow is when temps will finally move into positive territory. With partly sunny skies, the mercury should top out around 5. The warmer trend (above zero during the daytime) should continue then for the rest of the week. High temps on Wednesday will be near 10 and on Thursday and Friday highs should reach the mid teens. Another blast of cold air will arrive for the weekend but it should not be as cold as the last one. High temps on Saturday and Sunday should be around 5. Overall it looks like we will have a gradual warm-up through the month of February, but it doesn`t look like a return toward the spring-like temps anytime soon.
What about snowfall? It still looke like a snowfall drought through the next week or so. Our best chance of a light accumulation (and inch or so) will be Friday night into Saturday morning.

drgnldy812 ~ just think of how cold you would be if you didn't have that .1 to keep you warm :shock: I guess when we get into that kind of temps that .1 is something to look forward to!!

Clear and bitterly cold again. Low -5 to -10. WInd west northwest 5-15.
If it wasn`t for the bitter cold air and wind chill warnings/advisories over the last few days there sure wouldn`t be much to talk about in the weather. So now that temps are warming up just a little, I guess there isn`t much to talk about. The weather pattern will be just plain boring over the next week or so. The only forecast challenge will be deciding whether each day will be partly sunny or mostly sunny, and today will be sunny. The sunshine will feel nice as long as you are out of the wind, otherwise it may feel just like the last few days. The WNW wind will be gusting up to 20mph at times creating wind chills as low as -30 this morning. With temps dropping a little below zero again tonight, the wind chill will remain a problem. In fact the 10-20 mph wind will stick with us all the way through the weekend. So even though temps will gradually warm-up there will still be a bite to the air.
How much will the temperatures warm up? The mercury should climb up to around 10 today, reach the low teens on Thursday, and the mid teens on Friday. Over the weekend the high temps will be stuck in the low to mid teens, then early next week the warming trend should continue with highs in the upper teens on Monday and around 20 on Tuesday. Tuesday also looks like the next day when there could be precipitation, although right now it looks like just a slight chance of light snow or flurries. No big snowstorms are on the horizon.
For everyone who was keeping track, it turns out that the temperature was below zero for 89 hours in a row from 7pm last Friday evening through noon yesterday (Tuesday). The only time (in recent memory, last couple decades) when the we had a longer stretch of below zero temps was in 1996 when it was below zero for 7 days in a row.
