More wintry weather is on the way for today, but don`t get too depressed because the outlook for the weekend is looking better. After several days in the 20s and 30s, it finally looks like some 50 degree weather is possible by early next week.
For today and tonight a Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Jackson, Monroe, Juneau, Adams, Waushara, Waupaca, and Shawano counties. A snow advisory is in effect for the same time period for Price, Taylor, Marathon, Menominee, Wood, and Portage counties. Some light snow will continue this morning in the southern half of the area, mainly south of Wausau. By this afternoon there could be an inch or two on the ground in places like Stevens Point, Wisconsin Rapids, and Wautoma. Up to an inch is possible in Marathon county. Heavier snow will then develop during the late afternoon and evening and it will move farther north. Overnight 3 to 6 inches additional accumulation is possible for areas south and east of Wausau, while 2 to 4 inches is likely around Marathon county and 1 to 3 inches in possible in the northwoods. It will be a heavy wet snow and since the ground is close to being frozen once again, some of the roads will become slippery.
Some light snow showers will still be around the area Thursday morning but the activity should taper to flurries by midday. With mostly cloudy skies and a northwest wind, high temps tomorrow will only reach the mid to upper 30s. On Friday a little more sun should grace to fields and forests of northcentral Wisconsin and that means the mercury should reach the mid 40s.
Yesterday, I had mentioned that there was another chance of rain or accumulating snow for the weekend (on Saturday), but it now looks like the storm system will stay far enough south of Wisconsin that we will only have a slight chance of rain or snow showers on Saturday and warmer temps should be in the works on Sunday. Highs will reach the mid 40s on Saturday and the low 50s on Sunday. Early next week temps should remain close to normal with highs in the low to mid 50s on Monday and Tuesday.
