Yesterday was heavenly here on Kentucky Island. The high was around 85 or so, but it was mostly cloudy and no humidity!!!! It felt great, especially with a nice breeze blowing.

Today on the other hand ~ humidity is back in full force. I was getting George( Ashelyn) on the school bus at 7:00a.m. and was pouring sweat just standing there. I am hiding out under the AC today :!:

Weekend Rain, Weekday Wind

We start out the week on a good note! I am always happy after a much-needed rain. It was the type of rainfall every gardener and farmer hopes for...steady but not a gully-washer, thus much of it was able to soak into the ground. Most of the area had over an inch Sunday evening. Hooray. The only spots that where the rain was a bit lighter was in the far north and the far south. In Eagle River 0.15 inches of rain was noted. In Rhinelander 0.30 inches of rain fell. For the rest of the area the rainfall generally ranged from .50 to 1.50 inches. Antigo had the highest amount in the rain gauge with 2.70 inches. Wausau had 1.34 inches and Stevens Point received 1.64 inches. The total rainfall for the month in Wausau is now 5.41 inches. There is no chance we will below normal on rainfall this August since the normal precipitation is 4.53 inches. That doesn't mean everything will be peachy for the rest of the month. The rain we received last night will keep the ground adequately moist for 5 or 6 days and then we will need more rain. For the year the precipitation total in Wausau is 20.82 inches which is slightly above the normal. Through August 13th, normal precipitation is 20.42 inches.

The cold front that brought the rain to the area is now gone and in its wake we will feel a bit cooler temps for today. Yesterday it was humid with highs in the low 80s. Today will be less humid with a refreshing wind and highs in the upper 70s. The wind will be strong enough, out of the NW at 10-20 gusting to 25, to make it feel a little like Fall. Tomorrow will be a litte more like summer again with lighter winds, plenty of sunshine and high temps right around 80 degrees.
South winds and sunshine should warm it up a bit more on Wednesday. High temps will be in the low to mid 80s. It will also turn a little more humid. The next storm system that could bring rain to the area will approach Wisconsin on Thursday and then move through the state on Friday. There will be a slight chance of thunderstorms late Thursday and a little better chance on Friday. I hate to get too optimistic about the weekend since it is only Monday, but current projections indicate high pressure moving into the area which should produce partly sunny skies and comfortable temps. Lets keep our fingers crossed. This weekend is the Big Bull Falls Blues Festival and it would be nice to have dry weather.

Space News:
Check out this neat slide show from the Mars Rovers: http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/multimedia/slideshows/mer-200608/. The scenery of Mars is quite interesting and beautiful, kind-of odd considering it is basically a desert planet.
