Spring is FINALLY here!!!

Fair
TEMP: 54F
DEWPOINT: 40F
HUMIDITY: 59%

WIND: From the Southwest at 7 MPH
BAROMETER: 29.68" (1005.9 mb)"

TODAY:
Hazy sun with a few sprinkles in the afternoon. High 53-58. Wind becoming west 10-15.

TONIGHT:
Light showers possible, especially north of Wausau. Rain mixed in with a few flakes of snow. Low 30-35. Wind becoming northeast 5-10.

One more spring-like day and then a bit of a cooldown. Many times in the spring a big change in temperature is accompanied by a big storm system, but this time around things are a little different. The cooldown will be gradual and the storms moving through the area over the next couple of days will be more of a nuisance than a major headache.

A weak cool front moving through the area this afternoon could bring a few sprinkles. Before the front moves through temps will once again warm up to very spring-like levels, in the low to mid 50s. With the wind shifting to the northeast after the front moves through cooler weather will move in by tomorrow. It still will not be too chilly on Wednesday with high temps in the upper 30s to low 40s. The problem on Wednesday could come from some precipitation. A weak trough of low pressure will move in from Minnesota and produce a chance of light rain and snow. Right now it looks like the highest chance of snow will be in the northwoods (north of Marathon county). There could even be an inch or 2 in a couple of spots. In central Wisconsin the temps should be warm enough for any light snow to mix with rain and melt off the roadways, so it shouldn`t be difficult travelling just a bit damp.

High temps will dip another notch on Thursday with readings in the mid to upper 30s. It will feel a lot cooler than the 50s of early this week, but it will only be a couple degrees below normal for this time of year. By Thursday evening another weak storm system will bring a chance of snow showers and some of the snow could last into Friday, and again it shouldn`t be anything heavy. Current projections indicate a dusting up to an inch.

The cooler weather will continue on Friday and through the weekend. High temps will be in the mid to upper 30s all the way through Monday. The next chance of light rain or snow will come on Sunday.

WIND: From the West at 16 MPH
BAROMETER: 29.81" (1011.0 mb)"

TODAY:
Becoming partly cloudy, breezy and cool. Few flurries possible in Iron, Oneida and Vilas counties. High 35-40. Wind northwest 15-25.

TONIGHT:
Mostly clear. Low 8-13. Winds becoming east southeast 5-10.

The snow that fell last night will turn out to be quiet transient. Most of it will melt by this afternoon and certainly by the middle of the work week. Temperatures will not only warm up enough to melt all the snow but also to produce a chance of thunderstorms by Wednesday. So it seems Spring is on the way. No serious cold air or snow is on the horizon for the next week or so. The timing is about right because the vernal equinox (astronomical start of Spring) is tomorrow at 7:07 p.m.

So a lot of spring-like weather is on the way, but it will still be a bit cool for today and Tuesday. The storm that brought the snow to the area last night is now moving to the east and in its wake will be gusty northwest winds and partly sunny skies. Even though the high temp today will range from the mid 30s to low 40s, it will feel a lot cooler because of the northwest wind of 15 to 25 mph. Tomorrow the wind will shift to the southeast and the high temperature should be around 40 with mostly sunn skies.

Tuesday night is when things will begin to change. The wind will turn more southerly and usher in very mild and more humid air. Eventually a few showers and thunderstorms will break out along a warm front moving into the upper midwest on Wednesday. If we get hit by some of this activity there could be a half inch or rain, maybe a little more. The warm front will be followed by a cool front late Wednesday night into Thursday morning and this will continue the chance of rain. By Thursday afternoon the area should dry out with a little sunshine. Even with clouds and rainfall, high temps on Wednesday and Thursday should reach the low 50s.

From Friday through Sunday, the mercury will remain a bit above normal with high temps in the upper 40s. The next chance of rain should arrive Saturday afternoon and continue into Sunday.

I am sure quite a few people will be upset if it rains during most of the upcoming weekend but one good thing about having rainfall is that at least we will be getting off to a good start for the growing season. The ground is still mostly frozen, however, some of the rainfall will soak in and at least help to fill up the area reserviors. It would be nice for a change to start out the warm season with enough moisture and continue that trend through most of the summer.

Weather History:
On this date in 1935 suffocating dust storms occurred frequently in southeastern Colorado between the 12th and the 25th of the month. Six people died, and many livestock starved or suffocated. Up to six feet of dust covered the ground. Schools were closed, and many rural homes were deserted by tenants. (Source: The Weather Channel)

***DENSE FOG ADVISORY***
in effect until Noon for Taylor, Clark, Juneau, and Adams counties.

***RIVER STATEMENT***
The Wolf River at New London in Waupaca County is just below bankfull stage. At bankfull stage, there is minor lowland flooding. The river is forecast to rise above bankfull stage this weekend and crest on Sunday.

TODAY:
Patchy dense fog... otherwise mainly cloudy. High 57-62. Wind west northwest 5-15.

TONIGHT:
Becoming cloudy with scattered thunderstorms after midnight. Locally heavy rain possible. Low 40-45. Wind becoming south 5-10.

SUNDAY:
Partly sunny with showers and thunderstorms likely by the mid afternoon. Some storms will become severe by the evening with large hail and strong winds possible. High 57-62. Wind southeast 10-20.

SUNDAY NIGHT:
Storms likely with heavy downpours possible. Low 50-55. Wind south 10-20.

After some areas of fog early this morning, sunshine will be a common sight across the region today with another warm afternoon. Highs topping out in the lower to mid 60s. Tonight starts off partly cloudy but clouds are expected to increase as the night goes along. There is the chance of showers and perhaps a thunderstorm toward morning. Lows will drop back into the upper 30s to lower 40s.

Sunday is shaping up to be a potentially unsettled day. Changeable skies are anticipated with scattered showers and thunderstorms developing, especially as we move into the afternoon and evening hours. Some thunderstorms may be strong to severe with gusty winds, heavy downpours of rain, and hail. We will be keeping a close eye on the development and track of these storms. Highs on Sunday should reach the mid 60s. Most of the storms should be out of the area by early on Monday, allowing for a fair amount of sun and readings to once again climb into the 60s.

As a matter of fact, the next several days should features afternoon highs that are a good 10 to 20 degrees above average. However along with that there are more periods of wet weather. Showers and storms are in the forecast for the afternoon on Tuesday and for the day on Wednesday. Another front then passes through later in the week, which could start a trend back toward cooler if not chillier weather by next weekend.
