When does the cheating line get crossed?

Hello everyone. i have wondered in the past if there are some things that could be considered cheating to a few and not to others.
For instance is it ok to enter a kids only sweep when you are an adult? I can see if you have a child but recently I have seen some winners of big prizes posting and boasting of winning in a kids only sweep. It would embarrass me but some sweepers I think consider alls fair as long as you do not get caught and disqualified.
On the other hand there are times when I enter using my husbands name and I know we all do that. But is it cheating also? What about having several different addys to be able to win?
I would also like to say that if I win in a sweep I stop playing in order to be fair. Some keep on winning even if you are only allowed one win. They said its ok if you do not get caught. I just don't know but if I win in any way I try to be fair and let others have a chance.
anyone care to jump in on this?

You will get a variety of opinions on this issue. This is a hot topic. In the question and answers section there is a thread called "Ethics" you will find some of my beliefs and the way others feel in there as well. Just ask yourself how YOU feel when entering a sweep. Follow your heart and instincts and most of all, have fun with sweeping!

Kids sweeps-Only my kids are entered, I don't pretend to be someone or an age I am not.

Hubby-Mine enters but, yes, I do some for him too.

If someone doesn't follow the rules, then they cross that line.

eprize (JA that runs 90% of IW's) was contacted years ago and they indicated that as long as you entered within the rules, entering for your spouse/child was fine. Since they police the sweeps, I go by what they said, not the opinions of fellow sweepers.

Some sweeps DO allow multiple entries with numerous emails from the same person - these are very rare. Most sweeps only allow 1 (time/per day/week/month/etc) per person.

Here at SA, we discourage anyone from crossing that line, but as I noted, we have NO control over what they choose to do, only the JA's/sponsors do.

I understand how it can be frustrating to follow the rules and not win while seeing others cross that line and post wins, but allowing it to upset you accomplishes nothing but make you feel angry/cheated.

Complaining {as evidenced by the advent of security codes after the DELF fiasco :nono:} only cause sponsors to spend resources on making sweeps "cheat-proof" thereby reducing the amount of prizes they give out, or conversely, causes them to give up holding sweeps.

This hobby is fun, and most of us never even think about crossing that line, and those that do are very shortsighted IMHO!!!

I know this is probably a stupid question, but what was the "DELF fiasco"? I guess I wasn't sweeping at that time.

A freebie board listed the DELF sweeps/IW a 3 or 4 years back because even if you lost the IW, they were giving out coupons to get an LCD (TV? I think?) for $1.00 so they were all entering with NUMEROUS email acct and wasted the IW prizes because they cheated!!! :nono:

They posted {bragged really :nono:} about this and sweepers complained. Soon after, we started seeing those unreadable security codes. :cussing:

DELL ran the DELF {Dell Elf} the following year, but I think then they stopped. Perfect example of cheaters AND complainers ruining it for the rule followers. :nono:

People at that board bragged how they were going to make a bot. It was a computer for a $ coupon I think but they also had some coupons that were deep discounts. People spent countless hours getting those coupons then reselling them for real money. It will be in the archives here.

1. what do the rules say?
2. Who actually is getting the prize?
My mother used every prize she won except the pink handbag.
3. Covetousness and greed, talk to God and see what he says.
4. Do you really need a can of vapoorize?
