When People Ask Me What I Do.......

"It was free to you, you shouldn't try to sell it to me. You should give it to me"

I have to respond to this - at one point in time, I put together a second income business by using up just about all of my free time finding collectibles and fine clothing (almost all second hand) and reselling it on eBay. There were some items I made a pretty penny on, some that I took a loss on, and I was spending a LOT of time getting the items, making them presentable, photographing them, listing them, and maintaining my store online. It was rewarding, but it was a lot of work.

Inevitably when you sell on eBay - especially if you're selling gently used/like new designer clothing - you're going to have people contacting you and complaining that you're selling your items for too much, they'll give you half (or even a quarter!) of what you're asking if you pull the item from the listing, etc. It's ridiculous the kinds of these people think they're entitled to for absolutely nothing.

For all of you that work at this hobby, I wish you the best of fortunes. For all of you that have made this both a science and an art and have shared your wisdom with the rest of us, I thank you and have every faith that your gifts will come back to you threefold.

Why can't they accept 'Professional Sweepstaker" as a serious answer? I just answer 'Nothing' when I am asked now.

We work just as hard or harder at these sweepstakes as people who are on outside jobs.

I figure it can't be a "hobby" or I wouldn't have to pay taxes on the "earnings". I am not employed outside the home, so this is my only income. So, this must be my JOB, Professional Sweepstaker!

Let's see them fight THAT logic!

Exactly, it is my source of income; so just like they are engineers, teachers, lawyers, ditch diggers-then why can't I be a 'Professional Sweepstaker?' Think I will get me some cards that list that as my occupation.

You know what? You bring up a very good point. I am currently a stay at home mom/wife until I can find work and the only funds I bring in are sweepstakes wins, very few ebay sales, few trades/sales here and there, and survey rewards.

I work full time in a dental office. And I love sweepstakes!! So I guess I have a part-time evening job. LOL I used to enter sweepstakes awhile back and lost intrest. I wasn't winning and I started to believe people when they said it was a waste of time.

I got back into it back in September of 2007 and it wasn't a waste of time after I won almost $1,000.00 in Christmas gifts!

This site is great though. The support and inspiring stories of great wins. It definitely keeps you motivated.

Since then I got 3 people I work w/ interested and my sister! My sister was a witness to an IW a good one too a Wii. She believed me when it came in the mail w/the congratulations letter. My husband is a believer too! He even talks to people at his work about some of the good wins!

Now everybody wants to know how I win. I tell them to give me their e-mail and I refer the site to them. I give them some advice and my e-mail for any questions they may have.

That avoids the issues of me feeling obligated to give them anything or enter them. Now if they're that interested in it they can do it themselves. It allows them to see it's not so easy.

I enter every day! 2-3 hours or more. When I go on the computer I tell my husband, "OK it's time for me to win our millions". He laughs and says," OK and make that a diving trip too while your at it"!

My sister wants to enter, but doesn't want to take the time to enter ~ what kills me is that she has high speed internet and a laptop so she could do it while she is watching her soap operas IF she wanted to. She hates it when I call to tell her what I have won ~ not that she has had anything to worry about lately, but still when I do!!!

I tell her over and over that once she gets started and get a system that it is pretty easy to do. She tells me that she doesn't want to "talk" to people like I do ~lol! I told her that the forum were not a requirement that I just love them ~ in fact, I think the forums is the reason I don't sweep as much as I should ~ lol!! I just love the people here on SA!! To me it is just excuses since she stays at home just like I do. She could be winning some big bucks if she just tried!!

I love the forums because the people are like me and we all get excited for each other win there is a win. My family is wonderful in supporting me, I share a lot of wins with them. They respect the fact that it is my job, they will call and ask very seriously, 'are you working?' It's other people that think I ought to be doing a brick and mortar job in order to be respected or acknowledged as an vital contributor to society.

To them I say, 'glad you ain't sweeping, that increases my chances of winning. And when I ride by in my brand new shinny Lexus, don't be a hater you could do it to if you took the time to enter.'

Do you prefer using a laptop or a traditional PC?

I have always used a traditional PC. And the other week I was having trouble with my camera downloading the pictures to the PC, and I had used my brothers laptop. It took me forever to learn to scroll and move using the laptop instead of my mouse. I was getting alittle frustrated. I had never used a laptop before.
Just curious.

Yeah, that little box thingy is too time consuming for me, my brother manages just fine. I guess it's like anything else, the more you use something the easier it becomes.

I don't like the laptop feel though. I used to be a typist years ago. and there is nothing like the feel of an electric typewriter, when you hit a key, you knew you hit it, only hit it once. I don't really like the feel of a computer keyboard. but, since the computer age came into it back in the 80's the electric typewriter is obsolete. I don't like the feel of a laptop keyboard at all. (just my opinion, what's good for someone might not be so good for someone else).

Miki you have an IM with sites that have some work at home leads.

Thank you, I will reply to your pm in awhile. Doing chores and not suppose to be online right now, LOL.

As for using laptop or PC, I prefer a pc but, I sold mine before moving out of state for more moving money so I am using a laptop currently. One win I really want is a new computer.

when people hear I do this they always say "oh, your one of those, I have heard about people like you" . whatever. I like what my brother says about me. He tells people I sit at home and squeeze money out of my computer. works for me.

LMAO - I love it!!! :headbang:

My guys thought I was just wasting my time when I started sweeping online - back in the 80's I snailed a TON and won only a few prizes for all my work/stamps. Now I know it was partly because I was stationed overseas and had a PO box - big no no!!! :nono:

But, once I started winning - it took me about 4 months - well, then they became believers

I go to a local Casino (usually I'd go today - I went Friday/Saturday this week and came out a little bit ahead :headbang: ) and have gotten to know some of the other regulars and have told them about my wins. Maybe because we all are trying to win (gambling) so they don't think anything of it - some ask how so I give them my addy and if they email me, I refer them here.

I'm a disabled veteran (11+ years in the Navy) and can't commit to a job since I never know when my back/migraines/sinuses will knock me out  So sweeping is PERFECT for me!!!

When I started winning, my mom wanted to try it out, so I went over and set her up and explained the ins and outs. I think she lasted a week? :crazytongue:

Sweeping ain't for sissies!!!

Gee, Amy, did the phrase "Never Again Volunteer Yourself" ever enter your mind when you were working, uh, elsewhere
I can't sit upright for any length of time, so use a laptop with a laptop desk while I'm in my recliner. The only way I can use a PC is to sit in a GeriChair with the keyboard and mouse on a board placed across the arms, because I have to recline.
I know one guy with back problems back in the day who used to work on his computer by putting the monitor face down on a glass top table and lying under it with the keyboard on his stomach. Now they had adjustable laptop stands so you can use a computer while lying flat in bed, which is cool.
I've got two mice I use with my laptop, one is cordless and one is a trackball mouse which a great for preventing repetitive motion injuries.

My husband won't do contest. I begged him to help me when I first started. But he tried for a little while, and said, no its sooooo boring. Well everytime I win a prize, hes like ohhhh wow, but still won't help me do contests. I think he gets bored with anything though.
I love doing contests/sweeping, I like to see all the new prizes that they are coming out with, especially the new dvds. I usually know which movies are coming out before anyone else does, its funny.
