When will I start winning?

Hi all - maybe you could give a new sweeper some tips. It's been several weeks that I've been entering sweepstakes regularly and have yet to win a prize? I'd hate to give up, but it isn't much fun to keep entering and not winning. Help?

Thanks!!!!!

Hang in there and just keep entering. One thing is for sure, you won't win if you don't enter. Some people enter for years before snagging a great prize.

:coffee: I started the first of February ... wins have been few and far between, but when I win something ... no matter how small ... IT IS SO EXCITING TO WIN! Keep on keeping on ... you will be glad you did!

I would suggest investing your time with instant wins at first. (read the comments to see which ones are hitting and for sure enter those)

Also research your local TV, Radio, and Newspaper websites for contests. (You do not always have to call in to win,)

I like to follow local restaurants and other companies (Best Buy, Crackle, etc.) on facebook they often have contests. (I will troll facebook every few hours to see whats going on)

Once you get your first win you will realize it is possible.

Like I tell all of my friends that want to start sweeping because they've seen what I've won....DO NOT expect anything for the first 4 months, at least, because of the time it takes for sweeps to end, drawing to be held, and fulfillment. If you don't stick with it for at least a year, consistently, you didn't give it enough time...and that's a bare minimum. Since March 2011 (I started about 6 months before) I've won $20,000, a Harley, and a car, plus 3 trips and a bunch of other little stuff. I've been SUPER lucky and my wins aren't common obviously but I'm proof it can happen. Stick with it if you have time, you WILL win..eventually.

 amber_carlin - I moved your thread to General Sweepstakes Talk because SA's owner/admin prefers only winning threads link off the home page.

NICE haul gates - it took me 6 years to hit a biggie :crazytongue:

You are now my poster child for enter & forget it, in 6 months {or more} you WILL win it!!! :sunny:

I have a friend who recently started sweeping and I explained to him that it's 100% conceivable (to me) that one can enter consistently for years upon years and never hit anything big due to the sheer odds. I honestly think even 1 big one in six years is probably lucky/above the norm. I've been CRAZY lucky so I can't complain if/when I go on an all-time epic cold streak...but I'm also trapped into never stopping because I know it's possible to win BIG. We need a mathametician to crunch the numbers and see what the probablilty of hitting big really is , though it may discourage all of us to know the answer. Good Luck Amy..you are due!!

Several weeks    .... not near enough time to be discouraged! Here's the way it is with sweeping: You can't win until it's over. Unless you have only been entering from a list of 'ending today' most of what you have entered most likely haven't ended yet. Even if they have ended it sometimes takes weeks until they choose a winner. After the winner is chosen another few weeks may go by until they notify the winner ... sometimes a month or more. Then you wait again, weeks or months, to actually get the prize. Sometimes prizes do just show up at your door but the time after they end until the winner is chosen still applies. Now IW are another story ... the winning time is pre set each day and the first person playing at or after that time is the winner ... and remember there are 24 hours in each day so IW's can be very elusive! Just be patient and persistent and you will win ... Also, remember that the more you enter the bigger chance you have to win something ... BUT don't feel that if one person enters 800 sweeps a day you have to do. Everyone's life is different from the next person so you can only do what you have time for. Some, like me, are retired, and have an understanding husband that doesn't expect me to be at his beck and call every moment, so I have all the time I want to enter sweeps. Other people can't devote as much time because of kids, jobs etc. so they do what they can. My point is, enter as many as you can in the time you feel you can devote to sweeping. There are days I get discouraged too, but I shake it off because I know a dry spell is temporary and will end ... just like when you win several times a week, that will end too. Don't be discouraged! Hang in there and before you know it you will be posting a win!!

My theory is; if you hit big quick {within the 1st year} you are MORE likely to hit big again {and again?} like you did. :headbang:

Conversely, if it takes years to win big, it will probably takes years to hit big again. Like I did.

So, under my theory, I figure I have another 4 years to go! :crazytongue:

Good thing I am patient, huh?

Thanks everyone for the helpful advice. I will hang in there and keep entering. I do try to visit the expiring soon page daily to enter those. Thanks again!!!! :sunny:

Sounds like you know what you're doing so all you can do now is enter and wait...and check your email. Don't get discouraged too much, though we all do at some point. I went on a complete cold spell of 6 months or more before and after my 1st big win but I've also hit 3 big ones ($3000 and up) in the same month recently ..meaning, if I let the last cold-spell discourage me, I would have never hit the last 3. It's a snowball effect. If you can keep going until you finally win, it gives you the insentive to keep entering because you now know it's possible, which leads to more wins. Getting to the first decent win without giving up is the key.

Although it's possible, sweeping is not about instant gratification. It takes work, time, effort, consistency and faith on your part that you'll eventually win.

It's a hobby (avocation), not a job (vocation). You expect to be paid from your job (instant gratification), but you should not have the same expectation from sweeping.

The large or valuable prize sweeps attract the most entries from the most people, and the odds of wining decrease with each entry. The odds of winning can be right up there with the various State lotteries. You better believe that everyone here enters a sweep like the HGTV.Com - Rescue Your Renovation Sweepstakes where the weekly prize is $50,000. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the odds of winning that one is one in a million.

If your intention is just to win "something", then enter the less desireable sweeps that attract the fewest entrants.

I've been sweeping for more than 15 years - probably closer to 20 years. I don't remember winning anything the at all in the first year, and then some small wins started to come in . Others hit it big in the first few months.

As others have pointed out, the "instant wins" are the best bet to win immediately. Regardless of the games etc. that some instants make you play, the winning time(s) of the sweep are PREDETERMINED, and the game has no effect - Let me repeat that - the game has NO EFFECT (I always skip the game if I can, or I'll minimize it and go enter another sweep while the game finishes). If you're the first person to enter on or after one of the the predetermined times, you win. I once won $5,000 from Burger King on an instant win. I just happened to hit one of the predetermined winning times.

Make the effort, expend the time, do it consistently and the wins will eventually start to appear.

So true! If you do the math, it really would usually take a while to see a win unless you count IW's...and a lot of them can be very nice! You really do have to be patient with Sweeping, for the most part! Good luck amber_carlin!

My brother wins lots of things - some little & some bigger. If he wins something he doesn't really want or need, he sells on ebay so he makes money that way - so I decided that since I'm now retired and have lots of time on my hands I'd start entering contests/sweepstakes online daily also. I haven't won anything so far - started during the Summer, but he keeps encouraging me to continue so I do. Afterall, I know I can't win if I don't enter & it's free to do it - plus I have lots of time so why not!
