I just pretended to list on ebay and it took my $1000 GF. I think you can do it and then you can report the actual amount minus costs of listing if you have to claim it

If you actually list it, EBAY will cancel the listing before it ends. I have had it happen to me on a couple of occasions. I ended up using the card until I got the balance lower than $500 and listing it then.
