I won a 25 gift card from Mountain Dew and Circle K.Today I got call that I also won New York trip with 400$ spending money, trapeze lessons worth around 9000$.I cant afford the taxes so I will not take the trip.Ill be happy with just the 400. That was also won thru Mountain Dew /Circle K.Got a 100$ Hess card in the mail last week from Publix.

Awesome wins!!! Very happy & excited for you. Even though you can't take the trip you still can enjoy $400 and the excitement of even winning! Congratulations & enjoy :)

Congrats! Hopefully you can give the trip to a relative or friend instead of letting it go to waste. Can they pick an alternate winner and still give you the $400?? Where you entering to try and win another prize?

Congratulations, anyway. Someone posted a while ago that you do not have to pay taxes on what they say it costs...only on what it actually costs. Like a car, if you could find the same make and model with the same access. for less, that's all you have to pay taxes on. I live in CA but I'll bet I could fly to NY, stay in a nice hotel and buy all my meals for a lot less than $9000. I wouldn't even sign up for the trapeze lessons. I think the $400. would cover my meals. Before you win another trip, you might want to ask your tax person what the rules are on this. Doesn't hurt to ask. :)

When I got the call from a Lawyer regarding my big win he explained that it was just something that would be sent to me for my end of the year taxes. I would have taken it.

If you turn down the trip, usually you would have to turn down all that goes with it including the $400 cash. I would definately check into the fair market value and get ahold of your accountant to see what you would actually have to pay taxes on before I would turn the whole thing down. Congrats tho! Nice win! :)

I won a trip last year to a neighboring state. The trip was $10,000 and for 4 people including air ,and hotel.Well, I had a rental car voucher for 3 days so we told them we would drive and they sent us a check for $500 for expenses.Only 2 of us went so that knocked it down, too. And we only stayed 2 of the 3 nights in the hotel...took our trip from ARV of $10,000 to my 1099 I got at tax time to $1,236!!
