My hair has been bugging me lately. Its red, blonde, brown.. driving me crazy. so I decide to dye it. I pick red. why? because my hair is mostly red anyway. well, the red is red. After I put it on im looking and thinking wow! that is red. so, I only leave it on for less than 15 minutes and wash it out. to late. omg! I look like a clown. worse. Its soooo red its almost maroon. All I could do is just laugh. My daughter already said " you are not walking me up to the bus stop".. oh yeah, keep talking and I will put on overalls and a straw hat. :crazytongue: Im not kidding. I cant believe I was so stupid. I should have washed it out immediately.

Ever done anything you wish you didnt.

Re: wow! Im an Idiot

 So where's the pic? I have had so many hair mishaps it's not even funny. Right now I am a brown blonde something or other. One time I had colored so much it felt like cotton so I had to get it all cut off.

I still don't know what I am going to do for my daughters wedding in Sept.

Re: wow! Im an Idiot

 So sorry to snicker... Well at least red hair is in style. Some of the worst mishaps I have had were from licensed beauticians. I use to do some coloring many years ago, but soon realized that you never really know what you are going to get. I never had anything turn out too bad though. I stick with what I am born with now.

Re: wow! Im an Idiot

red hair in style. sure. This isnt red hair. Its one of those colors that could be seen from space.

I will see if I can get my camera to work. If so, I will show yall a pic tomorrow. Maybe it will be better by then.

Re: wow! Im an Idiot

Oh sweety!! Is it bad?

I colored my hair a couple months ago. Tried to go a darker brown and it took somewhat. Bought some clarifying shampoo and conditioner and used it up until last week. It just dawned on me a couple days ago that may have been why my color didn't stick around for long.

Maybe try that and see if it takes some of the color out. I bought the Suave brand.

And to answer your question, I do stuff I wish I hadn't done all of the time!! It's like I've been on auto-pilot these last couple of months. I do things before thinking them through.

Re: wow! Im an Idiot

 I love you no matter what color your hair is. Hey maybe you should put it in pigtail braids and do a wendys commercial. :crazytongue:

Yes its that bad. Thanks for the tip. I will buy some of that shampoo. of course that means I have to go out in public.

oh tiff. Its so close to that color its not funny. whats so bad is that I missed spots. so you see my old color, red, old color, red. Its freakin hilarious. I gotta laugh or I would just cry.

Re: wow! Im an Idiot

Yeah...that is what we get when we try to save money  My hair has been red, orange, and one time a lovely color green! I tried to go darker brown one time and mine was really, really red also! The green was caused by the swimming pool!

It's just hair...thank goodness! What a way to get back at your kids though...

I'm about ready to dye mine again also! Wish me luck!

Re: wow! Im an Idiot

At least you can laugh! Be sure to take lots of pics just so you can show them to your grandkids! Reminds me of when my son was in his teens and had a bright red spiked mohawk. It reminded me of a rooster. He had to climb into cars sideways and tilt his head once inside so it wouldn't hit of headliner in the car.

Is it red like this? www.amphigory.com/se_nuclear_red.html I really kinda like it and if I was 30 years younger I would go for it.

omg! yes!! just add a little tint of purple to it and you get the idea. :error:

Re: wow! Im an Idiot

Yup, conditioner works wonders for taking out unwanted (or in completelyme's case, wanted) color :). You might want to try a hot oil deep conditioning treatment, then wash with a clarifying shampoo. That should strip most of it out. I used to have a dark purple mohawk, with orange buzz cut on the sides. But I was 17 and in a rock group, so at least I had an excuse

Re: wow! Im an Idiot

Oh...I want teal streaks in mine!

I sorta wanted to do mine like Jesse off of Rock of Love last season...pink in front and blonde/almost white in back...I just loved it! Jimmie would crap

Re: wow! Im an Idiot

pink wouldnt be bad. The problem I have with this color is im so pale that it makes the red look even darker ya know. This might be a good time to cut it all off. I have been wanting to cut it. I had about 6 inches cut off not to long ago and would like to go shorter. Its to long and its hard to take care of. yall will see. Im going to try and get my camera working tomorrow. I just gotta show ya.

Re: wow! Im an Idiot

Hey - maybe your beautiful new hair color is bringing you luck!!!

sorry about the mishap...I feel for you. It's pretty neat you can laugh. I don't know how I'd handle it! But I must thank you...I've been toying with the idea of coloring my own hair, but I think I'll let my stylist do it

Thats funny. I just talked to my friend in FL and asked what she was doing and she said she was fixin to go to wal mart and get her hair dye. she was going to try something different. um, let me tell ya a story first. Dont think she will be trying something different now. :nono:

Re: wow! Im an Idiot

You guys are hilarious!

It's exactly the sort of red I imagined. I can see how if you couldn't laugh you'd be crying. That's how I feel about the extra 20 pounds sitting on my azz and thighs

I don't know how you feel about vinegar but I'm wondering if it will help strip the color faster  Like maybe dousing the hair and a towel. After dousing, wrap towel around head for an hour and then repeat.

I know I'm grasping at straws LOL I'm trying to think what I would do if I was in your shoes. I wouldn't be able to afford to go to a salon to get it corrected.

Found a few things on using vinegar:

RE: Vinegar to Remove Shampoo Build Up
Post By Beth (Guest Post) (03/26/2008)

Please use caution when using vinegar and lemon juice if you color your hair. The properties in vinegar and lemon juice are great for removing buildup but can also strip hair color causing haircolor to fade. Especially Reds

I'm going to try a vinegar rinse tonight, myself, to remove some build-up I have from poor rinsing and styling products. I've also used baking soda with my shampoo to remove build-up and soon after coloring(on accident). I could smell some type of chemical being released from the mixture of baking soda, clarifying shampoo, and hair(kinda like ammonia). My hair color wasn't that much different from my natural color so I didn't see a difference after rinsing BUT it may help you and worth trying.

Re: wow! Im an Idiot

 I think I would be hesitant to use something with some much acid as vinegar, it may fade it to a bright orange! Call the beauty shop and see what they would recommend. Don't try any home experiment and make it worse.
