New poster but long time contest entry person. I didn't know where to post this win. It is not over $3000 and it is not my first win and it is not an instant win so I guess I begin a new thread, correct?
About 2 weeks ago I received an email announcing that I won the Grand Prize of $1000 in the $1000 Gap Maternity contest. Attached to the email was the document that I had to print out, sign and get notorized. Needless to say, I was very surprised and happy. This is the first time I was notified of a significant win in an email. I really thought that significant wins would arrive via the mail or Fed Ex as my one Grand Prize win did in August 2007. Is email notification a common occurence? I will now have to check all my emails carefully because I could have dismissed this as spam. I rec'd an email in my spam folder a few months ago announcing that I was a winner and I usually dismiss these spam emails. For some reason I recognized the sender - Newegg.com - so I opened the email and it was announcing that I won a Sony portable DVD player with a retail value of about $200. I had to send my shipping info and that was it. I have rec'd the DVD player and it is a very, very nice one.
Does anyone know if I will receive Gap gift cards that can be used at any of the Gap stores?
Prior to these 2 recent wins, I won the $25,000 Kraft Make Your Kitchen Over contest and for this winning I rec'd an overnight Fed Ex mailer last Aug. 2007 with all the documents to have notorized, etc. I rec'd five $5000 Home Depot gift cards for that win. It was great. A few months later I received a regular letter in the mail and that was notification that I had won 3rd prize in a Pay Your Mortgage contest and my win was a $500 Bed Bath and Beyond gift card. I just had to fill out some paperwork and mail it back to them.
I have also received many smaller prizes in the mail without ever having rec'd any type of notification about being a winner that I know of. Of course, the notification emails may have gone to my spam folder and I never opened them.
So my question is this - How are most people notified about their significant winnings? Those items with a value of $100+? I read on the $3,000+ win thread that 1 woman rec'd a phone call and it came up as Unavailable. She normally doesn't answer those type calls and neither do I. She answered and she won a substantial win and the rules for the contest said that they would call the home 1 time and if no answer, go on to the next person. Is that normal? I must admit I never read all the fine print of the contest rules regarding notification. Again, I never answer Unavailable phone calls.
I have been entering contests on this website for about 2 years now and I feel very fortunate with all my wins.
Any info regarding notification will be appreciated. Thanks. Good Luck to all.
