$1000 Gap Maternity Win

New poster but long time contest entry person. I didn't know where to post this win. It is not over $3000 and it is not my first win and it is not an instant win so I guess I begin a new thread, correct?

About 2 weeks ago I received an email announcing that I won the Grand Prize of $1000 in the $1000 Gap Maternity contest. Attached to the email was the document that I had to print out, sign and get notorized. Needless to say, I was very surprised and happy. This is the first time I was notified of a significant win in an email. I really thought that significant wins would arrive via the mail or Fed Ex as my one Grand Prize win did in August 2007. Is email notification a common occurence? I will now have to check all my emails carefully because I could have dismissed this as spam. I rec'd an email in my spam folder a few months ago announcing that I was a winner and I usually dismiss these spam emails. For some reason I recognized the sender - Newegg.com - so I opened the email and it was announcing that I won a Sony portable DVD player with a retail value of about $200. I had to send my shipping info and that was it. I have rec'd the DVD player and it is a very, very nice one.

Does anyone know if I will receive Gap gift cards that can be used at any of the Gap stores?

Prior to these 2 recent wins, I won the $25,000 Kraft Make Your Kitchen Over contest and for this winning I rec'd an overnight Fed Ex mailer last Aug. 2007 with all the documents to have notorized, etc. I rec'd five $5000 Home Depot gift cards for that win. It was great. A few months later I received a regular letter in the mail and that was notification that I had won 3rd prize in a Pay Your Mortgage contest and my win was a $500 Bed Bath and Beyond gift card. I just had to fill out some paperwork and mail it back to them.

I have also received many smaller prizes in the mail without ever having rec'd any type of notification about being a winner that I know of. Of course, the notification emails may have gone to my spam folder and I never opened them.

So my question is this - How are most people notified about their significant winnings? Those items with a value of $100+? I read on the $3,000+ win thread that 1 woman rec'd a phone call and it came up as Unavailable. She normally doesn't answer those type calls and neither do I. She answered and she won a substantial win and the rules for the contest said that they would call the home 1 time and if no answer, go on to the next person. Is that normal? I must admit I never read all the fine print of the contest rules regarding notification. Again, I never answer Unavailable phone calls.

I have been entering contests on this website for about 2 years now and I feel very fortunate with all my wins.

Any info regarding notification will be appreciated. Thanks. Good Luck to all.

WOW you are one lucky person! The one grand prize I have won I received a fed-ex over night package but I had a phone call first (too cheap for caller ID so I am not sure how it would have come up) but the woman had called me 3 times before we finally connected and she gave me the good news!
I didn't enter the gap maternity win since I have no use for maternity clothes. Good luck!

Congrats on your first big win!

My big wins were cash from Travelocity and i was notified via email. I actually asked the guy for a phone number to call to verify it was real. I was sure it had to be a scam! When I won a TV i was notified in the form of a letter and affy sent via Fedex (overnight I believe). Different sponsers do things differently.

Regarding the phone calls. Since I started sweeping I try to answer all phone calls. Large corporations often come up unknown because they own so many different numbers. I would start answering or you might miss out on a win. Or if you're like me and are too nice to tell a telemarketer your are not interested you'll have a dating service calling you everyday for a month...Funny thing is I"m not single! Wow was it hard to get them off my back! They were a sponsor of a local sweep I entered and so legally they had every right to call me. *sigh*

to answer your question regarding gap cards. First off I thought this one was cash and not gift cards...but i could be wrong. Gap to my knowledge doesn't have specific maternity stores, just sections in their regular stores. I know Gap Gift cards work at both regular Gap Stores and Gap Outlets. I believe Gap Body as well. They DO NOT work at affiliated stores such as Old Navy, Banana Republic or Piperlime. I also believe that they DO NOT work online (as of last christmas they didn't )

Thanks for the information. I guess I better begin to answer my phone.

Actually, I don't know if I will be receiving $1000 in cash or in a Gap gift card. Since I am beyond the maternity years and since I kn0w they do not actually have a Gap Maternity Store, I figured I would be receiving a generic Gap card. The cash would be so much better. I am sure my daughter could easily spend $1000 in Gap but not me. If I receive gift cards, I will sell on Ebay for cash. When I won the five $5,000 (25,000) Home Depot GCs, I sold 1 of them to a friend for $4500 who had recently bought a fixer upper house. I put that money aside for the taxes I had to pay when I filed my 2006 income tax. Ebay will only allow GCs to be sold up to $500 in value so I couldn't sell the HD GC on Ebay but I sure was glad to find someone who needed one to help defray the tax cost. Whatever I receive from this win will be appreciated and used one way or the other.
