Governor Sarah Palin

well I care because she is up for VP of this country. Just because im not voting mccain/palin doesnt mean I should not educate myself on what they stand for.

Absolutely! I care too, Trace. Given that we have to choose from the lesser of 2 evils I want to know which one will be better at serving this country. I think it's important to educate oneself on all of the candidates so that one can make an educated decision. It just seems like the reasonable thing to do.

Hey, it's not my place or anyone else's to ridicule someone on why they are voting for one or the other. But it would be nice to know voters are doing whatever they can to educate themselves on the candidates and their issues/view points. In my opinion it's what responsible americans do. Like someone said to me earlier, people are going to possibly vote for Palin because she's attractive and they like her glasses. In my opinion(yes, again ) that's shallow, superficial, and well, not what most responsible voters would or should be doing.

And Lord jesus help me! This post is not directed towards anyone and not trying/attempting to disrespect, attack, or whatever other kind of malarky one may think it represents. These are only my opinions and views.

One more thing  FWIW, I welcome anyone's comments that may differ from mine. By me posting on Palin's different views and behaviors it is to help educate others that may not know much about her just as I welcome comments about Obama. One can never have too much knowledge on a candidate.

I started this thread to find out what people think of the first woman VP pick and of course there are two sides as always. I think I have voiced my opinion more than enough on her and I have to say I am glad she is on the ticket. I won't do any mud slinging on the Dem. nominee as it is nonproductive. May the best man win POTUS.

Actually, Cin, she is the second woman to run for the VP spot on a major ticket. Geraldine Ferraro was Walter Mondale's running mate in 1984. The Repubs came at her with both guns drawn. It was clear, then, that America was not ready to accept a female in such a high position.

As for now, Obama picked Biden. A strong representation for the Good Ole Boy club. I don't know enough about Palin yet to decide on her. I do know I don't like Obama and I really don't like McCain. So, I look at it this way, McCain is in his 70's. I need to learn about his running mate and factor that into my vote because when I read the paper today, I, like usual, glanced at the obits. There were a lot of people in their 70's there. So, anything anyone wants to share about her, I am happy to read.

You're right wolfie I should have mentioned her because I see her on Fox all the time  I apologize. Palin has taken on the good ole boys in her state and I believe she will cross party lines :)

Make sure what you read is fact and not just rumor or at least the whole truth about what you read. You know how the media can put a twist on things. Especially blogs or someone else. I hope you find out everything you need to make an informed decission. Good luck and again thanks for all your input :)

I know better than to believe a blog.

I am a registered unenrolled. Many staunch Repubs and Dems have asked me why I have not chosen a party. I have even been called wishy washy, by my colleagues, for not choosing. Personally, I find it hard to choose. Honestly, I am an educated professional with personal beliefs that fall on both sides. Although personally I don't believe in abortion, I don't believe it is my right or place to tell others how to believe on the issue or whether or not to have one. I also don't think, until anyone of us is in that position, that we know what we would do. I do believe in a strong military. I firmly believe in a missle defense system. I think President Bush should be impeached for knowingly lying to the UN.

I however also think the media has a responsibility to report the news, not make the scandal. I think it is very difficult for Americans, who use free thought and don't just vote for someone because the person is a Repub or Dem, to get enough information to make an educated decision.

Heck, in 2 days, I knew all the scandalous information available on Governor Palin, but it has taken much longer to find out who she really is. Her being a moose hunter is offensive to me and very unladylike, in this Bambie lover's eyes. I do admire her being a working mother. I admire her strength and support of her teen daughter's struggles. None of which is likely to sway my decision about the republican ticket.

What will sway my decision is her views on Abortion Rights, her opinion and actions on ANWR, her views on Iraq, South Korea, Iran and Afganistan. Does she have insight in the economics of the US? Aside from ANWR, what solutions is she bringing to the energy crisis?

What makes me angry, I go to my homepage this morning and all I see is "Who is the most over paid actor" and "Campaign Outrage Machine in Rolling." The only campaign news there was the story saying that the candidates feign outrage to increase donations. What a joke!

Yep sounds like you are a little of both parties. I like you will base my vote on the issues. I do believe my personal beliefs play a role in that but I am more concerned about what the next POTUS will be doing to improve the US.

I think your post echos what/how a lot of us feel. Wading through the political bull droppings and making an informed, educated decision can be hard for a vast amount of varying reasons.

I'm keeping it much lighter today. My way of honoring 9/11. I've contemplated writing a hate letter to Bush(again) but am afraid the men in black will seek me out and off me.

why today I wonder? Maybe Im just jaded and really, really cynical but it seems like an odd day. why not yesterday or tomorrow. Im curious now about the questions.

No clue as to why today maybe Charlie Gibson could say. I'm guessing this has been planed for a while now but not sure.

I missed it but caught a short recap on CBS. All I saw was him asking her if she ever had doubts about being VP or even the president(when McCain asked her) if something happened to put her in that situation. She said no, no doubts. She said she told John if he thought she could help the ticket she would do it. I want to see if I can find the interview on the net somewhere, but am beat and hubby and the boys will be home soon. I'll find it tomorrow. Or if anyone finds it feel free to post it.

Today does seem rather odd. It was most likely planned in advance but why today of all days? Maybe the GOP was hoping saps like me would be less critical of her answers since it is 9/11 LOL It's hard to be mad at anything today.

That and didn't her son ship out for Iraq today also?

Yep! You're right! I just read that in the...drum roll...interview!! *key Mission Impossible music*

http://blogs.thetimes.co.za/minor/2008/09/12/the-palin-interview-on-abc/

It's not video, folks. I'll find that in a few. I'm doing like 5 things at once. Word for word, the interview, though. Feel free to share thoughts, opinions, what have you.

because she commanded the Alaskan National Guard and that Alaska is close to Russia gives her national security experience? laughable. and already talk of war.. yep, she is perfect for this job.. Its not like we arent already busy in a little place Iraq.. speaking of Iraq...

I wasnt aware that the war in Iraq was a task from god.. I guess god dont like Iraq'is

And she didnt blink when asked to be his running mate? Didnt blink? She didnt hesitate for a second and think this is a huge responsibility am I sure I can do it? Am I qualified, what effect will this have on my family.. She didnt think about anything other than woohoo!! vp for me. crazy.

Im glad I copied this.. I had to type it out twice.. then it said it had already been posted when it wasnt..

Is it just me or is anyone else sick of hearing people complain that Palin isn't thinking of her family or this talk about her decisions about running for VP having an effect on her family.... It's irritating... What about the male candidates that run ... does anyone ever ask them how this will effect their family life? NO ... they dont'... so why does this keep getting call out on this... so what her daughter is prego .... does that mean she isn't worth being a good VP? I like the fact that she's firery..... I think she's strong and was an excellent pick on McCains part....

I dont care that her daughter is pregnant makes no difference to me. And I think male candidates should also think about the effect on the families.. I never said they shouldn't.

The reason some are calling her out on it is because she wants to have it both ways.. Im a hockey mom! im just like you! my family is number one!.. if that were true she would have taken a second and thought I wonder what the spotlight will do to my pregnant teenage daughter. How will it effect her being made fun of on late night tv?

you don't think that is a reasonable thing to do?

I know LOL "Hey, y'all! I can see Russia from here!" *takes out check list and checks off national security on "experience" list

I had problems with her referring to the war as God's will as well. Then she backpedals and says she's not sure or doesn't know. Just another example of her forcing her religious beliefs into her political position. And then trying to pull the wool over our eyes while trying to save her own butt.

As a mother and a person in general I am always second-guessing myself. For her to not have "blinked" when asked to be John's running mate is either scary or a lie. Even with someone with all of the self-confidence in the world or someone who has a huge ego problem, surely one would "blink" at least a little when asked to take part in something so important. After reading how she has abused her power in the past and had multiple people fired who didn't agree with her, it's scary! Almost like, "Ahahahaha! The world will be mine! All mine! Kneel before me, you peasants! Praise God! Sinners, I command you to praise your almighty creator!!" *insert Dr. Evil bringing pinky finger up to lip and staring off*

I read the comments at the bottom of the page and someone said on the interview her replies to questions were edited. That's not fair to her I have to say. It should have been important enough to show the people Charlie's questions and her replies in their entirety.

Don't know if you are pertaining to members who have posted in this thread that aren't Palin supporters or just people in general, because I have posted not too far back that I couldn't give a you-know-what less about stuff like that. Wolfie has posted she couldn't care less about it and now Trace has posted that she couldn't care less.

If you are talking about people in general talking smack about her in that regard, I agree with you. Just because she's a mother doesn't mean she shouldn't run for VP. But she should be prepared when saying things like Trace pointed out, "I'm a hockey mom, I'm just like you, family first!" But the reality is she has a young, pregnant daughter and a newborn with down syndrome. I can see where people find her statements in that regard contradictory. But again, I don't care about that stuff when it comes to who will be running this country. I do, however, care that she has abused her power in the past and had people fired, simply because she didn't like them or that they had a difference of opinion. I do care that she charges rape victims for their rape kits(and if she has her way won't allow them to have an abortion), and wants to run this country based on HER religious views.
That to me is not cool. Sorry you disagree.

People in general... abortion in my opinion is murder.. i'm glad she & McCain would be using religious views to run our country.... we need more of that installed back into our government.... i think her ex-brother-in-law should have been fired.... i read that he admitted to using a friggin' taser gun on a few occations on his step son (Palins nephew).... He got what he deserved.... :sunny:

I think you misread...she'd be incorporating HER religious views into running the country, not yours. And the gov't. already has PLENTY of religious fanatics or politicians who claim to be religious and do otherwise. Installing more religion in gov't., sweetie, it's already there LOL

Just because you believe abortion is murder doesn't mean that it is and doesn't give you the right to decide what other women do with their body. What if you were fat and liked spandex and I tried to pass a law that made spandex illegal? You'd be like, "chick, please! This is MY body and not yours!" What right do you have to press or push your moral beliefs onto someone else?

The point about the firing with the ex BIL is that it was an abuse of power which is indicative of how she may act as VP or God forbid president.
