My first Surprise Win...and a lesson learned

So happy that it turned out to be a happy win for you. Glad your son is enjoying the monkeys. Your big win is coming. don't give up.

You made me cry too! Your son is really enjoying the monkeys and now you are too! Hope something even bigger comes your way soon!! :)

That's one reason why I haven't bothered to sign up for UPS alerts... so I can just get a random package out of the blue and say "Huh, what is this... oh, it's just a product key chain." haha Very minimal disappointment.

Hope a big win is coming your way soon! :)

I absolutely love the honesty of your post. I am sorry that you were disappointed in the win, but also so happy to hear that your son is thrilled with it. Here's hoping for bigger and better next time!

One of my favorite sayings is "Keep your expectations low and you'll never be disappointed, but could be pleasantly surprised". Seems like that would have worked perfectly for you prize today. We don't always get all the great prizes we dream about but I find that if there is something particular that I want and I remain persistant, patient and consistant with entering for that prize. I will eventually win it. Stay positive and keep entering. Before you know it that ereader will be in you hands. Congrats on your win and best of luck to you!

A sweeper friend and I always assume UPS alerts are "another cap." More often than not, that is it, but sometimes it's a special treat! Good Luck!!

Chin up!! When you least expect it a nice win will come your way!! Just think of all the friends you have here at the forum and that will make you smile for sure!! For what it's worth...I used to love playing with a barrel of monkeys when I was a child!!! Actually you don't hear much about that toy these days!!

It's wonderful that your son loved it! But I agree with Meijer...I wouldn't think UPS would put a package in your mailbox. Don't give up

Sometimes it's the weird wins that turn out to be wonderful wins. I won a mosquito once. Turned out to be cut glass and copper wire piece of artwork. I mounted it and have it in my living room for all to see. Also the buttermilk I won turned out that I liked the product and buy it all the time because it makes wonderful pancakes and fluffy biscuits. Congrats to you son on his wonderful win.

Oh boy do I know exactly how you feel! We just spent close to $2,000 fixing our vehicle that we just bought used a year ago. It really stinks spending so much money just to get your car in the same condition it was the day before it happened, wouldn't be so bad if that money had actually gotten us something we didn't have or paid off some bills, but hey I'm starting to learn that that's just life for ya! I was looking at the winner's forum about a week ago and seen someone who had won like 10 iPads or so and lots others who have won 5, 10, or $25,000..................I've won $1,000 shortly after I started sweeping and its all been downhill since then it seems. I'm so envious of all the people on here who have such amazing luck but I'm sure they've worked hard to get there too. One day it will happen for us too as long as we keep our heads up and keep on entering.........you can't win if you don't enter. Good luck to you and I hope that BIG win is just around the corner for you, sorry to babble on and on :)

giveawaymommy - I've been where you are, and I totally commiserate!

In the http://www.sweepsadvantage.com/foru...talk/28592-not-winning-anything-tips-why.html thread, I posted this, which I think applies a bit:

I think the usual sweeping learning curve goes something like this:

Oh boy, LOOK at all these!!! I MUST enter ALL of them and then I WILL win.

For some, it only takes a week for them to get frustrated and start asking "Why can't I win??? I see all these others doing it, what am I doing wrong???" while others plod along and don't reach that point for months.

Since 6 months is the norm, those posting they won after a few days/weeks are actually outliers, who are also more likely to post, but that doesn't change how others react.

The other part of the curve is in how many & how often you enter.

When you start out, ANY win sounds fun, and so we tend to go hog wild - yes, I did it too. :crazytongue:

In time, we learn to prioritize, and that while entering lots of sweeps may increase your chances, it doesn't guarantee them.

Ways I deal with the frustration of a dry spell:

1} I get outside of my own head by helping others. Either by voting, answering questions, or just getting a little silly. :crazytongue:

2} I avoid the winners circle. It's not that I'm not happy for other members, it's just that I don't need the constant reminder that I'm not one of them - for now. :crazytongue:

3} I hard charge on sweeps, going through all the categories and getting a sense of satisfaction/accomplishment when I get all caught up.

4} I take a break from the computer, since it's gone from being fun to being a chore.

If you keep pushing yourself to enter and things don't change, you will most likely burn out and quit, whereas if you make a decision to take a break for a day or 2, you are still in control.

I *usually* find I return after my mini "vacation" that I'm refreshed and can see things more clearly, so the little things don't get to me, and I enjoy instead of dreading entering my sweeps. :sunny:
