My first Surprise Win...and a lesson learned

So I was so excited to wake up this morning to an email from UPS that I had a package coming today. I was so anxious what could it be...I was hoping for something really nice or maybe even a book. What I really wanted more than anything was an ereader/tablet. I would take anything though...or at least I thought anything. Well I just went out to the mailbox to find a small package. I felt my heart sink but I said to myself maybe just maybe it is jewelry. It's the right size box for a bangle bracelet or earrings. So I rip it open and inside is......a barrel of monkeys. I want to lie and say that I was upbeat about it or laughed it off but quite frankly I cried. Not just small tears but big racking sobs. I had my heart all set on something nice. I never seem to win when it comes to sweeps or in life. I was feeling so down on myself. I was more excited over the sample size toothpaste that came in the mail today. I could just hear those monkey whooping it up and laughing at me. I could imagine them flinging their you know what at me. My heart is starting to heal though because my 5 year old son is playing with them right now and having a grand time. He has a major learning disability and has problems with his fine motor skills. So I realize that this was a good win for him. Hooking the monkeys will work on his manual dexterity. Just hearing him talk to the monkeys and making monkey sounds is worth it. So I guess the moral here is even a crappy $5 barrel of monkeys is a treasure to someone. I'm still waiting for that big win but seeing me son happy is big enough for me....and yes I'm crying right now but not out of disappointment anymore :)

I hear ya! We sometimes get our hopes up for the grand prize to find out its a keychain. Glad your son is enjoying the monkeys.

UPS wouldn't put it in your mailbox would they? Maybe something else is coming too? Congrats to your son on his fun win! My grandson loves them monkeys :)

Sometimes we don't win for ourselves but for others....if I can't use it, I know others can. Those little monkeys were meant just for him!

Agreed! I stopped getting excited when I missed the USPS, went 2 blocks down the street, stood in the long, slow line, just to find out my P.O. was over 2 miles away! So I drove there, stood in their long, slow line, just to find out it was NOT a surprize win, but a nothing prize I already knew about!

Since then, I wait until I've fully confirmed/been confirmed to get excited - it removes the ups & downs!

Sorry about the disappointment, but what a nice little surprise for your little son.

As you can see, your post generated a lot of response. I think there is another dimension to sweeping where we experience these things...it is not always the most expensive prize that we like best, or use the most...and sometimes it is just getting a win at a certain time when we need a boost that matters most.

Hope your next win will be more in line with what you wish for. :)

Oh we all know that feeling, but it's only human to get your hopes up for something really great. I'm sure your turn is coming soon! Don't get discouraged.

throughout the years you will probably have more strange wins...and you will also have some really cool ones to talk about....so keep it up...and congrats to your son for his really cool win...yours is out there

Don't ever loose the excitement, even for Monkeys. The way I see it: This was the best win for you today. Your son is enjoying them so much it seems. The value in the happiness is you are seeing with your eyes is worth more than any money in the world. Relish this time and enjoy this win of amazement for him and you.

Congratulations.

The purpose of that win may have not been for you to benefit after all. Maybe God secretly knew that this was just what your son needed. All wins are wins in my book, big or small I love them all. I have learned not to frustrate myself by trying to figure out what is coming. It never will meet our expectations(we always want the big win by nature!)...Hope you have many more big and small wins!

Thanks for posting! I completely understand. I'm almost sorry that I signed up for the UPS Alert, because it causes a little too much anxiety for me sometimes!! Congratulations on the small, fun win for your son! I hope you get a win soon that will bring extremely big HAPPY tears to you. Good luck & God bless!

A win is a win so I will say congratulations, but I hear your disappointment. You will win more exciting prizes as time goes on so keep entering.

Maybe crying helped get the frustration out. It will be your turn soon. Just think good thoughts and you will win something fantastic. Keep the faith!

I know what you mean about UPS disappointment. My heart jumps when I see the brown truck coming down my street, and then sinks when he drives on past. But I have been blessed with some lovely wins, and you will be too. Persistence pays off. Good luck to you.
