Tropical Storm Gustav

We just got #10 tropical storm Josaphine.

Tammy you may be right about the evacuations but this time everything went really well. I just think there is no reason to put your life in harms way. Hopefully people will see how well this one went and just leave if it's manditory.

Sadly, I have to agree with you Tammy. I don't think everyone is going to leave this time. Dh's cousin is down until all of this passes, I'm not sure when she will go back when they say it's safe or if she will leave for anymore of them.

My mom was talking about the hurricaines and tornados but, like I told her. Every state has something disasterous that could happen, you're not completely safe from mother nature anywhere.

Keeping you all in my thoughts.

Thanks everyone for being so concerned , My home in New Orleans was lost to Katrina
and I am trying to sell it to the state I thought this storm would finish it off but it hasen( It
kept me scared and my stomach upset all weekend)
New rleans just doesnt seem to be coming back as strong as I thought it would
Please keep Katrina people in your prayers who knows what is next...

I can't imagine what you have been through  This last week must have been terrible for you. I hope you were away from Gustav when it came through. I will be keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers during this whole hurricane season and during the recovery season. I know this all has been so hard. The pictures have been haunting and I can't imagine living it. God bless you all!

I don't like where this IKE is going and it's a 4. I hope everyone is paying attention to this and of course Hannah also.

Thank goodness looks like Josephine isn't gonna be a threat ~ I just hope it doesn't reorganize! Got my fingers crossed on Ike ~ not looking promising...

We got Hanna coming in this afternoon. It's cloudy, dark, and extremely humid out; and it's starting to rain a little.

Ike is coming, suppose to be a very dangerous storm and they don't know exactly where it will hit. People are starting to evacuate from Florida to Mexico I heard. Anyone going to evacuate this one? Stay safe, its a 4 now.

I'm in Houston and I think I will stay put. I have a 2 story home so if one of my pine trees fall on the top of the house I should be ok God willing :)

I think anyone being asked to evacuate manditorily should though. We are a little further in from Galveston. Be careful everyone in the path.

How much wind did you get? Post pics

It came in two parts. We got heavy rains for awhile. Then that stopped abruptly, and the winds just came in immediately picking up speed very quickly. The winds were 40 to 60 mph. We stayed out on the back porch late until it was just getting annoying trying to keep the hair out of our faces. Now, we have to pick up branches. There's a big branch in the front that I have no idea where it came from. Somehow, it must have come from a tree across the street. We probably won't know how it effected different towns/areas until tomorrow. Last night, they were expecting this to go on until Sunday afternoon; but the sun has been out since at least when I got up at 10:30 a.m.! They had all public areas s h u t down since Friday.

I had to spell s h u t this way, because it keeps turning to poo. Ken must have meant that just for the other word.

:headbang: glad it wasn't too bad for you guys. But even those winds can cause some damage.

We had a tree come down on the house one time. That's the weirdest thing to hear. I could hear it slowly breaking/snapping apart slowly while running around the house trying to figure out where to go, then BOOM! After that, we had alot of questionable trees taken down and asked our neighbors to take down one that was leaning towards our house that the tree guy found was hollowing out too. They had no problem doing that. Our area is a bit different than other areas of Long Island as far as protection goes. We live on the end where it forks off into two parts. We're on the North Fork. At this end, the land is very narrow and surrounded by water. There's a causeway down the road that sometimes floods out completely if the tide gets too high during a storm. Then it's like the very tip becomes like its own island.

My husband just said we have some damage on our truck. A branch came down on it and scuffed the hood and creased the fender. Oh well!
