I can stop complaining about the lack of rainfall now. For the month and for the year we are still below normal, however, the light rain yesterday really helped out. The next chance of rain will be on Monday and if it does rain it will be perfect timing (right after the weekend and right about the time we could use another soaking). So what were the rain amounts from yesterday? I was expecting a couple tenths of an inch in the southern and eastern parts of the area and it ended up being more than that. Even here in Wausau there was a very generous 0.40 inches. Now I don`t have to water my garden this weekend. Some higher amounts were reported to the south and east with the Town of Lanark checking in with 0.58 inches, Polonia had 0.42 inches, Gresham ended up with 0.44 inches, and Wild Rose was tops with 0.60 inches. Most locations in the south had amounts around 0.25 - 0.40 inches. Farther north it was a bit less. Merrill had 0.11 inches and Rhinelander only reported a trace.
Turning to the future, the rain is done for the time being. There is only a slight chance of a shower in the northwoods tonight into early Saturday morning, otherwise it should be dry for the weekend with temps warming up a bit. Today will be a little cooler than the weekend because we will start out with some cloudcover. Partly sunny skies developing in the afternoon should lead to high temps in the mid 60s. On Saturday there will be more sunshine so the mercury should reach 70. A west southwest wind and continued sunshine on Sunday means temps should reach the mid to upper 70s.
Late Sunday and cool front will move into our area from the north and it will kind-of stall in central Wisconsin by Monday morning. This front could end up being the focus of thunderstorms by Monday afternoon and evening and it might create a large difference in temps across the area. High temps might only reach the mid 60s in the northwoods on Monday while possibly climbing above 80 in the far south. The front should move south of the area by early Tuesday morning and high pressure will take over the weather. This means partly to mostly sunny conditions from Tuesday through at least Thursday. High temps will be about normal on Tuesday, in the low 60s, then rise into the mid 60s Wednesday, and into the upper 60s by Thursday. One other note, there could be a little frost in the area next Wednesday morning.

On this date in 1988 Mount Washington NH reported seven feet of snow in ten days, pushing their snowfall total for the month past the previous record of 89.3 inches set in 1975. (Source: The National Weather Summary)
