There certainly is a difference between knowing how cold it will get and then actually feeling how cold it is. You never can quite prepare your body for the first blast of Winter. It takes a while to acclimate. In the middle of January when the high temperature is in the mid 30s and a few flurries are flying we call it a January thaw. In the middle of October we just call it ugly, and that is how it will be today. The one aspect that will make it feel especially cold is the wind. Today it will be out of the west at 20 to 30 mph. That means the wind chill will be in the teens and 20s all day long. You will want to put on an extra layer of clothing before venturing outdoors. Unfortunately, the storm system that is bringing the winter-like conditions is in no hurry to leave. It will bring more wind and snow showers to the area tonight and on Friday. The snow will not be heavy enough to cause problems, but there could be a dusting to half inch in some areas, especially in the northwoods. High temps on Friday will be in the mid to upper 30s.
