Its different if you grow up around them, are taught safety.. Its just unfortunate that so many people get them and dont take the proper precautions. It makes me sick to my stomach to hear about little kids being shot because mom and dad didn't lock the gun up. The hard part is trying to balance the rights of the responsible gun owners against the safety of innocents.
You know this is another one of those things we weren't taught anything about. I mean dad never said here's my guns don't play with them. We knew what a gun was because we played cowboys and indians and we knew guns can hurt you. We just never gave it a second thought. I think now days there is too much attention brought to them. I can see the same differences in the way you and I feel on this issue too but that's ok. Of course it upsets me when anyone gets shot especially kids it's awful. Times sure has changed because I never heard of accidental shootings when I was growing up.
Forgot to say we knew guns were for hunting and hunting meant food on the table.

There are a couple of reasons for this I think.
First~ Information is more available now than it was 30,40, or 50 years ago.. back then a shooting could take place in hick town usa and no one but people locally would ever hear about. now days if a shooting takes place in hick town usa its all over the wire inside of 30 minutes.
second~ Back then if a child was accidentally shot using a parents gun it was treated as a tragic accident and people were sypmpathetic. They were not treated like negligent parents.
thought of a couple more reasons.
more people now, higher rate of crime means more people are arming themselves..
more families with both parents working so kids are left alone alot more than they used to be.

Dont see how anything I pointed out has to do with political beliefs but ok.
We do have a gun in the house. My kids know there is a gun in the house, but they do not know where it is ~ period! The only reason that we have it is because Jimmie is on 3rd's and I have something here 'just in case'. Of course, it is hidden, and has a safety lock, and no bullets in it...so by the time I get to it ~ it will probably be to late! Man, I feel safer already!
Caitlyn actually had a friends brother that was killed a couple of years ago. His dad was 'cleaning' his gun while drunk and it went off killing the brother in the next room. Caitlyn's friend was in the room with his brother when it blew most of his brother's head off.

This was a grown man cleaning a gun while intoxicated...he killed one, but ruined the lives of everyone else in that family that day. He seems to be the only one not affected. If that seems harsh, you have to know this man!
The other brother, Jordan (Caitlyn's friend), finally went back to school, but is having so much trouble it is just unreal...just a sad story all the way around!
That is horrible, Tammy. I feel so bad for everyone involved. It actually made me cringe to read that. May that poor boy rest in peace and may his father's soul find some peace as well. I can't imagine! I just don't want to...
OH!! OK, I see. I thought you meant he didn't seem affected by it but he was the type of man that kept it bottled up.
Well, I'm taking back my wish of him having a peaceful soul. Seems pretty telling of his character to talk about the boy like that, especially since he was the dumb, donkey's backside who shot him.
