Terrible storms here in Missouri and down into Arkansas. I hope all have faired well. We had something here this 6 a.m. hour and lost a huge oak tree and wind, rain and debris was hitting our house on all four sides at once, could see more than a few feet outside the house. Scared the sense right out of me for awhile.

Low: 65
High: Could be 80
Now: Still storming

Good luck to all east of me.

We had a tornado warning a couple of hours ago. Thank goodness it didn't get to bad here, just a lot of wind and rain. I have heard that it was really bad south of here in my county. We are also under a flood warning right now. Some areas around us have gotten up to 16 inches of rain in the last 24 hours.

Our car got hailed on last night. Jimmie said last night that it was hail the size of golf balls that pelted our car. We are going to have to get it fixed now. They were at work when the storm went through and it got really bad up there. They were put into lock-down twice last night for possible tornados. Just glad that so far there have been no injuries reported with the series of storms that have went through. I think that all of the bad weather has went through and that we just have to worry about the rain amounts now!

People are telling us the weather but not where they are!! It would be helpful to say what city, state you live in. :D

I live in the Boston area and today it is cloudy, warm and somewhat humid. A last gasp of summer before the nasty winter returns.

I guess most of the "regulars" on here know where the others are and don't even think about the ones dropping in!!

The weather here is perfect today ~ high of 73 degrees with lots of sunshine! We do, however, have out flood warnings for the area. There is so much low level flooding and flooding at the river. I have seen several trees down around in the area also! It is going to cost us $250.00 to get the car fixed from the hail storm

Jacket Weather

Talk about perfect timing! Yesterday was a great Fall day with partly sunny skies and highs in the upper 60s. The rain held off until after dark for most of the area. Once the rain developed, it was a nice amount that fell. Many areas received about a quarter inch. The heavier showers should end early this morning but the storm system will be slow to move off to the east. That means the clouds will stick around and a few light showers may yet develop during the afternoon. All of this, combined with a northwest wind of 10-20 mph will make it feel quite cool. High temps will be in the mid 50s. Clouds and a few sprinkles will remain in the area from tonight through about midday Thursday. If we are lucky, there could be a little sunshine later Thursday afternoon. Even with a bit of sun, high temps on Thursday will only be in the lower 50s.

Even colder weather will develop Thursday night into Friday morning. With clearing skies and light winds there is a potential for widespread frost. It will be our second widespread frost of the season. Unfortunately, the clearing skies that may lead to frost Friday morning will soon quickly become cloudy once again by Friday afternoon. Another storm system will move into the area and bring a good chance of rain from Friday evening off-and-on through Saturday night. High temps will be in the low 50s Friday and mid to upper 50s on Saturday.

It still looks like some decent Fall weather well develop on Sunday and Monday. With more sunshine and southwest winds high temps should climb into the 60-65 range for Sunday and 65-70 for Monday. In general, a more mild weather pattern should take over for most of next week. There may be a couple chances of rain, but temps should remain close to normal (in the low 60s).

Global warming stories were all over the internet and major media yesterday. It was triggered by the release of a study that claims the earth may be within 1.8 degrees its warmest temperature in the last million years. This prompted a lot of “disaster” proclamations. Here are a just a few stories about damage to coral reefs: http://www.enn.com/today.html?id=11325, warnings about strong El Ninos http://www.enn.com/today.html?id=11327, and about earth becoming a “different” planet http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn10159-global-warming-nears-a-millionyear-high.html. In a small way I feel empathy for the extreme environmentalists that are proclaiming the end of the world. I know how hard it is to get people’s attention and have them change their ways. Last week I discussed how rich “so-called” environmentalists are putting up extreme resistance to wind turbines in their communities. That is only one problem. Another problem is that the dangers theorized by potential anthropogenic climate warming are far off in the future. Environmentalists have been predicting doom for over a decade and yet in that time most of the inhabited world has not seen anything that would shake them out of complacency. There was a short intense heat wave in both Europe and the U.S. in the last couple of years, the sea level has risen a couple inches, and 2005 was a bad year for intense hurricanes. However, the bad things have not been persistent enough to make anyone want to change, and it is nothing that hasn’t occurred in the past. In fact, it could be argued that a majority of the humans on the earth have enjoyed benefits from the warmer temps. Agricultural production and productivity continues to improve in the warmer climate. More regions of the earth are becoming available for food production. It is also a plain fact that people enjoy warmer weather more than colder/wintry weather. Through my experience in the weather business, I would estimate that 50% of the population absolutely hates winter weather. About 30% find it very annoying yet will tolerate a couple months worth. Only about 20% or less actually enjoys winter. Back in the 1800s and early 1900s, winters were much longer and the snow was deeper. There were many instances of killing frosts as late as June and as early as August. I have heard anecdotal evidence there was at least one year when there was at least a trace of snow each month of the year in Wisconsin. If this is the type of weather that environmentalists want to return to, then they are going to be met with great resistance. Take a look at the weather history at the bottom of the page. There was a “black” frost on this date in 1816 and it caused a year-long famine. I am not sure what is meant by a black frost, but I am sure I would rather not experience it again. Taken to the extreme, most people would rather have temps a couple of degrees warmer (the predicted rise over the next few decades) than slip into another ice age. One more thing that makes the environmentalist evangelizing hard to accept is the “crying wolf” problem. End of the world predictions are made on an almost daily basis. The direst predictions have never come true, and thus by inductive reasoning alone, a lot of people don’t believe the current “end of the world” scenarios.

A weak storm system will move into the area later today and that means another chance of light showers. It will also be mostly cloudy with high temps only in the low 50s. Most of the rainfall activity should hold off until after 3pm this afternoon, but once it begins it will continue off-and-on through the evening and overnight. The rain will not be terribly heavy (only a tenth or two), but it will be enough to soak a few football fields in the area so bring your rain gear to any Friday night football games you plan on attending. The rain chance will continue into Saturday morning before the storm system moves farther east. By Saturday afternoon there might be a few breaks of sunshine with high temps in the upper 50s.

For all of you hoping for some warmer weather, you do not have to wait too long. On Sunday the skies should clear up and the temps should warm up. A southwest wind should help push the mercury up into the middle and upper 60s. It should be a nice day for a "Sunday" drive. Monday will also be quite warm with highs in the mid 70s. It might be our first true Indian Summer day. A cold front will move through the area Monday night and Tuesday morning and this will bring a chance of thunderstorms but not too much cool weather. After highs in the 70s on Monday it will be in the mid 60s on Tuesday. The rest of next week also looks mild and mainly dry. High temps from Wednesday through Friday should be in the 60s.

Fall Color:
As expected, the colors are peaking early in the northern half of the state. Check out the Wisconsin Fall color report here: http://www.travelwisconsin.com/search/FallColorReport.html This report was issued yesterday so by the time Sunday and Monday arrive it will certainly be at the peak. And it still looks like nice warm weather on those days. You will probably also find good color around a few spots in central Wisconsin. Go check it out.
